Melting Manager


Roles & Responsibilities:

  1. Melting Operations Management:

  • Supervise and coordinate daily melting operations including charge preparation, furnace operation, tapping, and pouring.
  • Monitor and control furnace parameters (temperature, chemistry, etc.) to ensure desired metallurgical properties.
  • Ensure proper alloying and deoxidation practices are followed.

2.Production Planning & Execution:

  • Collaborate with planning and production teams to meet the daily and monthly casting targets.
  • Optimize melting cycle time to improve productivity and reduce downtime.

3.Manpower & Team Management:

  • Lead, train, and supervise melting team (furnace operators, helpers, and technicians).
  • Assign daily tasks and ensure discipline, safety, and accountability within the team.

4.Quality Assurance:

  • Ensure molten metal chemistry is as per specification through spectrometer analysis.
  • Prevent casting defects by controlling melting and pouring practices.
  • Work closely with the quality team to reduce rejection rates and improve consistency.

5.Maintenance Coordination:

  • Coordinate with the maintenance team for timely furnace maintenance and refractory lining checks.
  • Ensure preventive maintenance is followed to avoid unplanned breakdowns.

6.Safety & Compliance:

  • Enforce safety practices during melting operations (PPE usage, proper handling of molten metal, etc.).
  • Ensure adherence to ISO, IATF, and other regulatory standards.

7.Documentation & Reporting:

  • Maintain records for heat logs, charge composition, pouring temperature, and non-conformance reports.
  • Generate daily melting reports and submit them to higher management.

8.Continuous Improvement:

  • Implement lean practices and suggest improvements in melting efficiency, cost reduction, and energy usage.
  • Participate in internal audits and Kaizen initiatives.


Qualification & Skills Required:

  • Diploma / B.E / B.Tech in Metallurgy / Mechanical / Foundry Technology or related discipline
  • 8–12 years in a steel casting foundry with hands-on experience in induction melting and alloy steel grades
  • Experience in pump and valve industry castings preferred
  • Knowledge of induction/electric arc furnaces, charge calculations, and heat treatment basics
  • Familiarity with ASTM, IS casting standards
  • Spectrometer operations and metallurgical analysis
  • Leadership & team management
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Good communication and reporting abilities
