Summary:
We are looking for a detail-oriented and innovative Mechanical Engineer with strong CATIA skills to join our automotive engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for the design, development of Integrated Mechanical and Electrical Systems and test of vehicle components, ensuring they meet functional, safety, and manufacturability requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- CAD Integration of Sensors (Radar, Camera, Lidar, IMU, etc.)
- Field of View (FoV) studies
- Design of sensor brackets and templates, considering thermal aspects
- Provide Sensor coordinates (X/Y/Z) and orientations (pitch/roll/yaw) in a table
- Release documentation for parts and assemblies; maintain KVS/Connect structure and part numbers
- Create and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) with detailed part specifications and supplier information
- Provide 3D assemblies (Connect) for vehicle projects
- Coordinate procurement and printing of first samples for vehicle integration testing
- Develop TDOs / PDM sheets
- Prepare detailed assembly instructions (IKEA-style build description) as single source of truth
- Plan part quantities and align with purchasing to meet build timelines
- Develop and maintain buildup description for all mechanical assemblies
- Collaborate closely with workshop colleagues to incorporate feedback into designs
- Support calibration, perception, and other teams with sensor-related vehicle integration
- Manage access for Connect, KVS, and relevant systems
- Design and develop mechanical and electrical components and assemblies using CATIA
- Create and manage 3D models, 2D drawings, BOMs, and engineering documentation
- Apply GD&T standards, tolerance stack-up analysis, and DFM principles
- Conduct design reviews, risk assessments, and optimizations
- Support product validation, testing, prototyping, and compliance with standards
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, quality, and project management
- Support change management and continuous improvement initiatives.
Requirements:
- 3-7+ years of experience in sensor and hardware integration in ADAS area
- Expert knowledge of ADAS sensor technology (Camera, Radar, Lidar, etc.)
- Expertise in sensor packaging, tolerances, and robust design
- Strong experience with engineering drawings, GD&T, and tolerance stack-up analysis
- Knowledge of environmental testing, materials selection, and autonomous vehicle systems
- Experience supporting manufacturing, service processes, and automotive development cycles
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and project management skills
- Ability to work under high pressure and meet tight deadlines
- Fluent English skills (German skills considered a plus)
- Bachelor s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field, with automotive sector experience
- Proficiency in CAD modelling, surfacing, drafting, and assembly design
- Understanding of materials, plastics, manufacturing processes, and mechanical systems
- Hands-on experience with prototyping, testing, and 3D printing software (slicing, orientation, materials)
- Knowledge of FEA tools and simulation integration with CAD
- Familiarity with vehicle packaging, sensor integration, and safety standards
- Strong communication, stakeholder management, and teamwork abilities
- Experience in global/offshore collaboration environments
- Considered a plus: expertise in VW-specific development environment (3D vehicle data structures, part number creation, archiving 3D data)
