Your Role
As a Mechanical Design Engineer (Kinetic Installations) at RHE, you will bridge the worlds of art, design, and engineering. You will be responsible for developing mechanisms, hardware, and structural systems that bring our kinetic design concepts to life. Working closely with Ronak Hingarh, fabricators, and artisans, you will engineer innovative, precise, and durable systems that support the artistic vision while ensuring technical feasibility.
Key Responsibilities
1. Concept Translation & Engineering Design
· Translate kinetic concepts and sketches into functional mechanical systems.
· Develop CAD models, 2D drawings, and motion simulations to validate feasibility.
· Provide technical input on structural stability, safety, and durability while maintaining design integrity.
2. Mechanism Development
· Design and prototype linkages, gears, cams, pulleys, actuators, and hinges for kinetic artworks.
· Explore modular and scalable mechanical solutions for large-scale installations.
· Optimize systems for smooth movement, longevity, and ease of maintenance.
3. Material & Fabrication Support
· Recommend appropriate materials, finishes, and jointing methods for each project.
· Collaborate with fabricators, machinists, and artisans to prototype and manufacture components.
· Supervise fabrication and ensure accuracy between engineering drawings and physical execution.
4. Integration with Interactive Systems (Optional)
· Work with mechatronics elements: motors, sensors, microcontrollers (Arduino/PLC) for automated or interactive motion.
· Assist in testing and integrating electrical/automation systems if required.
5. Prototyping & Testing
· Build scale models and prototypes for design validation.
· Conduct stress, load, and endurance testing to guarantee performance.
· Maintain technical documentation: drawings, BOMs (Bill of Materials), test reports.
6. On-Site Execution & Support
· Supervise assembly, transport, and installation of kinetic pieces on-site.
· Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical challenges during execution.
· Provide maintenance guidelines and manuals to ensure long-term functionality.
Your Qualifications
· Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field.
· 2–4 years’ experience in mechanical design, product engineering, or kinetic/structural systems.
· Strong skills in CAD software (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Rhino, AutoCAD).
· Knowledge of motion design, linkages, dynamics, and mechanism simulation.
· Familiarity with materials (metal, composites, wood) and fabrication processes (CNC, laser cutting, machining, welding, casting).
· Hands-on prototyping experience with mechanical assemblies, hardware, and fixtures.
· (Optional) Exposure to automation, robotics, or mechatronics for motorized/interactive systems.
· Strong communication and collaboration skills for working with designers, artisans, and vendors.
Why Join RHE?
· Work at the cutting edge of design, art, and engineering.
· Collaborate with renowned designers, craftsmen, and material specialists.
· Freedom to innovate, experiment, and prototype mechanisms for one-of-a-kind collectible installations.
· Opportunity to leave your mark on globally exhibited, avant-garde kinetic works.
