Mechanical Design Engineer

Job Description

Key Responsibilities: Design & Development: Design mechanical components and assemblies for logistics drones using CAD tools (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or equivalent). Convert design requirements and payload specifications into working mechanical systems. Develop modular, scalable structures optimized for weight, strength, and manufacturability. Rapid Prototyping: Utilize 3D printing, CNC machining, carbon fiber, and composite materials to build quick-turn prototypes. Iterate and improve prototypes based on testing and field feedback. System Integration: Collaborate with electronics, avionics, propulsion, and software teams to ensure mechanical compatibility and integration. Design custom mounts, housings, and payload deployment mechanisms (e.g., dropping/spraying mechanisms). Analysis & Testing: Perform structural, thermal, and fatigue analysis (using FEA tools or manual calculations) to validate designs. Support field testing, data collection, and failure analysis for continual improvement. Documentation & Production Readiness: Prepare detailed manufacturing drawings, BOMs (Bill of Materials), and assembly documentation. Ensure designs meet functional, safety, and regulatory standards. ⸻ Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Aerospace, or a related field. 4+ years of experience in mechanical design, with a strong focus on UAVs or robotics. Demonstrated expertise in logistics drone design and payload integration. Strong command over CAD modeling and design simulation tools. Experience with lightweight structural design using carbon fiber, aluminum, and high-performance plastics. Proficiency in rapid prototyping methods and hands-on experience building physical models. Solid understanding of mechanical tolerances, materials, and DfM/DfA principles.
