Job Description

Manager
NEC Power Block
Position: Shift Superintendent (MRS) Key Role:
  1. Overall in-charge of operation in shifts
  2. Responsible for Power System operation. Achieving highest reliability of power system in addition to meeting required parameters & quality.
  3. Responsible for power distribution and clearance to downstream units / substations.
  4. Responsible for safe energization and shutdown of equipment.
  5. Responsible for safe & reliable operation of EHV & HV system as per laid down procedures and TAL (Technical Authority Limit).
  6. Supervise jobs related to all equipment, monitor & ensure their performance for reliable, optimum & safe operation.
  7. Responsible for handling plant emergencies.
  8. Prepare, handover, and coordinate maintenance activities.
  9. Responsible for carrying out field/panel activities related to plant/equipment safe energization & shutdown, synchronization & de-synchronization with grid/other power network.
  10. Ensure strict compliance with all HSEF procedures.
  11. Coordinate with JMD Generating stations & CTU Control Room.
  12. Ensure 220kV & 33kV Power Distribution system and equipment operation within SOC.
Functions:
  1. Operate the power system with highest reliability.
  2. Synchronizing operation with other Power System / Grid power as per requirement (Operation of 220kV GIS switchgear).
  3. Act in consultation with Production Manager / SS of CTU for power system reliability.
  4. Service transformers OLTC operation to maintain grid power factor and voltage.
  5. Understand and raise bypass requests for trips and interlocks as per procedures and maintain records.
  6. Associate in analysis of Power distribution failures with other departments and correlate analysis with operating parameters.
  7. Review important power system study reports and monitor plant operation with respect to critical parameters (Load flow, Short circuit, Power system protection setting report).
  8. Observe trends of important parameters and take corrective actions for deviations to maintain quality & reliability.
  9. Monitor working on SCADA panel, F & G panel, manual synchronizing panel, disturbance recorder, etc., and control all parameters.
  10. Monitor records of bypass of trip and interlocks as per procedures.
  11. Ensure minimum downtime of power system & all electrical equipment.

  2. Working of EHV switchgears (400kV/220kV/33kV) GIS, transformers, etc.
  3. Downstream plants power distribution & consumption pattern along with location of specific load centers
  4. Electrical operation of the power system including transformer & GIS energization, synchronization with other power entity, shutdown & isolation
  5. Emergencies in plant arising out of tripping/failure of equipment/systems including load shedding & fire
  6. Power distribution plan to downstream plants & execution of the same
  7. Alarm, trip points & circuit interlocks testing procedures
  8. Protection relay functions, their settings, data viewing & checking procedures
  9. Electrical SOP of equipment pertaining to start up, shutdown, change over & isolation
  10. Unit operations & process employed in different areas of Power Complex
  11. Knowledge of SCADA/EDMS, its different functions & network configuration, controller description & their in-built logics such as OLTC operation etc. required for operation including all types of HT/AC motors/synch. motors, DC machines, power & distribution transformers, instrument transformers, HT panel, various circuit breakers & isolators, UPS, battery chargers & battery system, control, process-instrumentation interlock & protection of all above equipment. Set points and details of protective system.
  12. Control & Protection logic of GIS & Transformers. Circuit diagram of various control circuits
  13. Testing / troubleshooting / maintenance of the above electrical equipment
  14. Emergency power system operation
  15. Logic/circuit diagrams, troubleshooting & failure analysis
  16. Cables, joints, and termination
  17. Statutory bodies, rules viz. Indian electricity rules. Electrical equipment for hazardous areas
  18. Coordination during switchgear shutdown
  19. Alarm, trip points & circuit interlocks & testing procedures
  20. Protection relay functions, their settings, data viewing & checking procedures
  21. OLTC operation to maintain grid power factor and voltage
  22. Coordination & supervision during EHV & HV switchgear operation & shutdown
