Job Description

Primary Title: Mainframe Network Administrator

About The Opportunity

A role in Enterprise IT Infrastructure & Mainframe Operations supporting mission-critical, transaction-heavy systems across banking, insurance, and large-scale enterprise environments. We operate robust z Systems environments where high availability, secure networking, and rapid incident response are paramount. This is an on-site position in India focused on hands-on mainframe network engineering and operations.Role & Responsibilities

Manage and maintain mainframe network stack (VTAM, TCP/IP for z/OS, NCP) to ensure continuous, low-latency connectivity for back-end transaction processing.
Configure and troubleshoot OSA/HiperSockets interfaces and channel-to-channel link (CTC) connectivity; perform firmware/driver upgrades as required.
Monitor network health using IBM NetView and related monitoring tools; respond to alerts, perform RCA, and document resolution steps to reduce MTTR.
Implement and test network changes in collaboration with systems, storage, and security teams—coordinate maintenance windows and change control activities.
Support capacity planning, network performance tuning, and optimization for high-throughput workloads and large TPS peaks.
Develop runbooks, standard operating procedures, and automation scripts to streamline repetitive tasks and improve operational reliability.

Skills & Qualifications

Must-Have (technical skills)

VTAM
TCP/IP for z/OS
IBM Communications Server
NCP
HiperSockets
IBM NetView forz/OS

Preferred

Experience with OSA-Express hardware configuration and troubleshooting
Familiarity with z/OSMF or automation frameworks for mainframe network management
Exposure to SNA-to-IP migration strategies and 3270/TN3270 network setups

Qualifications

Proven track record in on-site mainframe network administration within enterprise environments.
Hands-on incident and change management experience in 24x7 operations centers; ability to work shift patterns as required.
Relevant vendor certifications (e.g., IBM z Systems networking courses) are a plus.
