Hiring for a client in the Enterprise IT Services sector focused on mission-critical legacy application development and modernization for Banking, Financial Services, and large enterprise customers. The role supports on-site mainframe engineering teams delivering stable, high-volume transaction and batch processing solutions.

Role:

Mainframe Developer (COBOL/CICS/DB2) — On-site, India

About The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Mainframe Developer to join an on-site engineering team working on core banking and enterprise backend systems. You will design, develop, and support COBOL-based online and batch applications, collaborate across release cycles, and ensure high availability and performance of mainframe services.

Role & Responsibilities

Design, develop, and maintain COBOL programs for online (CICS) and batch (JCL) processing on z/OS platforms.
Troubleshoot and resolve production incidents—perform root-cause analysis, apply fixes, and implement preventive measures.
Perform unit testing, code reviews, and support integration testing with DB2 and MQ interfaces.
Optimize SQL and DB2 access patterns, and tune CICS transactions and batch jobs for performance and scalability.
Create and maintain technical design documents, runbooks, and deployment scripts following change-control processes.
Collaborate with business analysts, QA, and operations teams to deliver releases on schedule and support cutover activities.

Skills & Qualifications

Must-Have

Proven experience developing COBOL applications for CICS and batch environments on z/OS.
Hands-on expertise with DB2 SQL programming and DB2 performance tuning.
Strong knowledge of JCL, TSO/ISPF, and VSAM-based datasets.
Experience integrating with IBM MQ and troubleshooting message flows.
Solid understanding of mainframe debugging, abend analysis, and production support practices.
Ability to work on-site in India and collaborate across cross-functional teams.

Preferred

Familiarity with RACF security administration or IMS transactional processing.
Experience with Rational Developer for z/OS or other mainframe IDEs.
Exposure to enterprise banking applications and Agile delivery.
