Role scope
To undertake, oversee and deliver high-quality detailed electrical design and engineering projects including calculations, analysis, schematics, drawings, diagrams, models, specifications, data sheets and other documentation required for HV and LV electrical equipment. Design electrical systems to the specifications, keeping safety and compliance with all local and federal laws and regulations at the forefront of your mind. Review designs to ensure they will be safe, fit the clients needs, and remain in compliance.
Details / responsibilities
- Experience in the design of electrical distribution systems in a project team environment with a focus on studies, Front End (FEED)design, detailed design for new plants and modifications/replacements of existing equipment in process plants
- Prepare Electrical equipment specifications, data sheets and purchasing requisitions
- Develop/Coordinate protective relay settings and coordination studies.
- Load List and Electrical equipment sizing
- Design of LV & MV Single Line Diagrams with strong knowledge of Relay & Metering systems associated with substations and e-houses.
- Design of motor protection and control schematics/wiring diagrams
- Review vendor designs for compliance with Technical Specifications and applicable standards
- Coach and support the team members on projects
- Monitor and update electrical manhours and schedule progress on assigned projects
- Provide Electrical BOMs and major equipment costs for capital cost estimates at various project stages (Feasibility Study, PDB and Detailed Engineering)
- Establish the scope of work for projects/ proposals, developing engineering cost estimates and deliverable lists
- Attend project team meetings, Client meetings and vendor review meetings
- Establish a good working relationship with the Clients
- Review designs for constructability and accordance with project requirements
Qualifications
- A degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized institution
- A minimum of 15 years of experience in the design of Electrical distribution systems in Oil & Gas Facilities
- Proficient in engineering theories and principles
- Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) with APEGA
- Good writing skills to produce reports, scope documents and presentation materials
- Knowledge of applying engineering application software like ETAP or SKM to study relay coordination, load flow, short circuit, arc flash, harmonic and motor starting the analysis
- Knowledge of electrical design calculations
- Familiar with Heat Tracing design
- Knowledge of Interfacing with DCS, SCADA, PLC etc.
- Knowledge of electrical Area Classification design and studies
- Knowledge of Battery/ UPS systems
- Knowledge of Substation Grounding study and Grounding Grid Layout
- Familiar with outdoor/indoor Substation Equipment layout
- Strong client focus; able to represent the company professionally when communicating with clients and visiting client sites
- Proven experience in successfully leading medium to large-size projects (budget of about 20000 hrs)
- Experience in managing vendor electrical packages (substation, e-houses, Transformers, VFD etc.)
- Experience in Kearl oil sands projects will be considered an asset
- Works with minimal supervision manages own time effectively and maintains control over all current projects/responsibilities
- Knowledge of domestic and international codes (CEC, CSA, IEEE, ANSI, API, NEMA, etc.)
- Very good communication and report writing skills in English
- Demonstrate a high regard for safety, quality and environmental policies and procedures
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
