· Provide nursing care for patient undergoing surgery and assist surgeons in major or minor operations. · Maintain standards of nursing care in pre-operative and post-operative planning, implementation and patient care. · Prepare the operating room for all emergency and scheduled procedures. · Keep principles of aseptic techniques in performing surgical scrub, setting instruments, gowning, gloving as needed for the procedure. · Give psychological support to the patient and family. · Ensure the anaesthetist/surgeons informed about the admission and surgery details of the patient. · Receive the patient 30mts prior to the surgery. · Ensure all check list, patient concern, investigation duly accompany with the patient. · Receive patients and take them into the operating theatre, undertake post-operative monitoring, in the recovery room and ensure proper transfer of patients to the surgery ward. · Prepare the operating theatre for specific operations (equipment, table, etc.). · Ensure the presence of the necessary staff to assist the surgeon, such as circulating nurse or scrub nurse. · Proper care and maintenance of instrument. · Assist as a circulatory or scrub nurse. · To arrange the trolley with all the necessary instruments for surgery. · To assist the surgeons. · To check the counts of swabs, needles, instruments etc. before closing the surgery. · Instrument washing and packing. · The circulatory nurse to recheck whether the counts are correct or not. · Ensure the specimen was sent properly. · To help in shifting the patient to recovery room.
