The Housekeeping Manager will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing all activities related to campus infrastructure, maintenance, safety, and operational efficiency. The role ensures that the universitys physical environment supports academic, administrative, and residential functions while meeting statutory compliance requirements in India.
Key Responsibilities
Infrastructure & Maintenance
- Oversee maintenance of buildings, classrooms, laboratories, hostels, libraries, sports facilities, and administrative areas.
- Plan and execute preventive and corrective maintenance schedules for electrical, mechanical, HVAC, and plumbing systems.
- Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and internal maintenance teams.
- Ensure uptime of critical services (power, water supply, internet, lifts, fire systems).
Campus Operations Management
- Manage housekeeping, sanitation, and waste management (including compliance with Swachh Bharat guidelines).
- Oversee landscaping and horticulture activities to maintain green and clean campus standards.
- Ensure proper functioning of transport facilities, parking areas, and campus mobility services.
Safety, Security & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with Indian statutory requirements such as
- Fire safety norms (NBC 2016, local fire authority permissions)
- Pollution Control Board norms
- Electrical safety standards
- Labour law compliance for outsourced staff
- Oversee campus security operations, CCTV monitoring, access control, and emergency response systems.
- Conduct regular safety audits, risk assessments, and disaster preparedness drills.
Vendor & Contract Management
- Manage service contracts related to housekeeping, security, landscaping, transportation, and maintenance.
- Evaluate vendor performance and ensure adherence to SLAs.
- Prepare and monitor budgets for facility-related operations.
Energy & Sustainability Management
- Implement energy-saving initiatives, green campus practices, and sustainable operations.
- Monitor utility consumption (water, electricity, DG sets) and undertake efficiency improvement projects.
- Promote renewable energy use such as solar installations.
Stakeholder Coordination
- Liaise with university administration, faculty, hostel wardens, and student bodies to address facility-related needs.
- Coordinate event support including seating, sound systems, lighting, and venue preparation.
- Maintain transparent communication channels for complaint resolution.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain records of AMC contracts, statutory licenses, inspection reports, and maintenance logs.
- Prepare monthly/quarterly reports on infrastructure performance, budget utilization, and ongoing projects.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in any discipline (however, Bachelors degree in Engineering (Civil/Mechanical/Electrical) or Facility Management shall be preferred).
- 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in facilities management; experience in educational institutions preferred.
Desirable Qualifications
- Post Graduate Degree in management
- Certification in Facility Management (e.g., IFMA, FMSI)
- Experience in a higher-education or large-campus environment or multi-building facilities
- Knowledge of ERP systems or campus management tools
- Proven leadership and supervisory experience.
