Job Title: HVAC Design Engineer – Electric Vehicles Location: chennai Department: R&D / Vehicle Engineering / Thermal Systems Reports To: Head of Vehicle Integration / Thermal Systems Lead --- Job Summary: We are seeking a motivated and technically proficient HVAC Design Engineer to join our electric vehicle (EV) R&D team. The candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and validating efficient, compact, and energy-optimized HVAC systems tailored for electric vehicles. This includes thermal comfort for drivers/passengers and critical thermal management of batteries, power electronics, and motors. Key Responsibilities: Design and develop integrated HVAC systems for electric vehicles (passenger & cargo EVs). Size and select components: DC compressors, condensers, evaporators, expansion valves, blowers, ducts, filters, and refrigerants. Collaborate with battery, motor, and BMS teams for integrated thermal management. Develop 48V or high-voltage HVAC circuits suitable for EV platforms. Perform thermal load calculations for cabin and component cooling/heating under various drive and ambient conditions. Design ducting layouts in CAD (Catia, SolidWorks, or NX) ensuring airflow optimization and NVH standards. Evaluate and test system performance: cooling capacity, energy consumption, COP, and safety. Coordinate with suppliers for component sourcing, specification matching, and testing. Support prototype builds, vehicle integration, and field testing. Ensure compliance with safety, EMC, and vehicle regulatory standards. --- Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering / Automotive Engineering / Thermal Systems. 2–6 years of experience in HVAC system design, preferably in the EV or automotive sector. Hands-on experience with DC compressors (especially 48V), R134a/R1234yf refrigerants, and electric HVAC system architecture. Proficient in HVAC simulation tools (AMESim, GT-SUITE, Flowmaster) and CAD software. Knowledge of automotive standards (ISO 26262, AIS, ARAI, BIS) is a plus. Show more Show less
