Job Description

Geospatial LiDAR Analyst (Transmission Lines)


Key Responsibilities

  • LiDAR Data Processing

  • Import, clean, and preprocess raw .las/.laz datasets.
  • Perform classification (ground, vegetation, towers, conductors, structures).
  • Generate Digital Terrain Models (DTM) and Digital Surface Models (DSM).
  • CAD & GIS Deliverables

  • Create contours, hillshades, and orthomosaics (if imagery available).
  • Digitize assets (towers, crossings, encroachments) and prepare GIS shapefiles.
  • Export data into CAD-ready formats (DWG/DXF).
  • Generate thematic GIS maps for transmission corridors and Right of Way (RoW).
  • Develop vertical sections, longitudinal profiles, and cross-sectional views from LiDAR data.
  • Support creation of

    geoid and coordinate system transformation models

    for project areas.
  • Powerline Analysis

  • Model conductors using catenary fitting.
  • Perform clearance checks: conductor-to-ground, vegetation, structures, and crossings.
  • Generate encroachment registers and clearance reports.
  • Prepare PLS-CADD models for engineering teams.
  • QA/QC & Reporting

  • Validate accuracy against ground control points (RMSE checks).
  • Conduct swath-to-swath overlap QA.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports and accuracy summaries.
  • Collaboration & Support

  • Work closely with UAV operations team for mission planning feedback.
  • Provide inputs for client presentations, regulatory compliance, and knowledge transfer.


Required Skills & Experience

  • Experience (2–3 years)

    in LiDAR data processing, GIS, and CAD workflows.
  • Proficiency in

    LiDAR software

    : Global Mapper LiDAR Module, CloudCompare, TerraScan/TerraMatch, or equivalent.
  • Hands-on experience with

    GIS tools

    : ArcGIS Pro / QGIS.
  • Working knowledge of

    CAD platforms

    : AutoCAD Civil 3D or similar.
  • Exposure to

    PLS-CADD

    or powerline modeling (preferred, but can be trained).
  • Strong understanding of coordinate systems, projections, and accuracy assessments.
  • Good reporting and documentation skills (MS Excel, Word, PDF).


Preferred (Not Mandatory) Skills

  • Experience in

    map creation

    (thematic, topographic, corridor-based).
  • Ability to generate

    vertical sections, longitudinal profiles, and cross-sections

    from LiDAR/GIS data.
  • Familiarity with

    geoid models, datum transformations, and coordinate system conversions

    .
  • Exposure to

    hydrological or terrain analysis

    using LiDAR datasets.
  • Working knowledge of integrating GIS outputs with

    regulatory compliance mapping

    (ROW, encroachments).
