General Manager (Technical)

Job Title: General Manager – Technical

Location: Guwahati, Assam

Reports To: CMD

Job Summary:

The GM – Technical will be responsible for overseeing all technical and engineering operations across broadcast channels, studios, outside-broadcast (OB) units, OTT/digital platforms and related infrastructure. This role ensures seamless on-air operations, maintenance of high technical standards, strategic technical upgrades, cost-effective solutions, and supports the business growth of the media group.

Key Responsibilities:

· Lead and manage the end-to-end technical operations of broadcast studios, OB vans, satellite uplink/downlink, signal distribution, inclement-weather backup, digital streaming platforms and all associated facilities.

· Develop and implement preventive and corrective maintenance schedules for all technical equipment to ensure uninterrupted broadcasting and minimal downtime.

· Monitor and optimise broadcast signal quality, latency, redundancy, class-leading uptime, and compliance with regulatory standards.

· Evaluate, recommend and roll out new technologies to keep the business competitive and future-ready.

· Create and manage technical budgets, vendor relationships, and ensure cost-effective sourcing and contracts.

· Coordinate with production, operations, editorial and digital teams to ensure technical requirements are met.

· Ensure all technical teams adhere to safety protocols, regulatory compliance, disaster recovery plans, and business continuity.

· Prepare timely technical MIS reports for senior management: equipment health, downtime incidents, incident root-cause analysis, upgrade progress, cost savings and innovation impact.

· Drive a culture of continuous improvement, standardisation of processes, documentation of workflows, and adoption of best-practices in broadcast engineering.

Qualifications & Experience:

B.E./B.Tech in Electronics/Telecommunications/Broadcast Engineering.

3-5 years of relevant experience in media/broadcast industry.

Strong knowledge of broadcast systems, signal flow, and technical management.

Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and vendor management skills. Excellent strategic thinking, problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally with production, content, operations and senior leadership.
