Feed Procurement Officer / Executive (Operations)

Role & responsibilities

Responsible for ensuring timely and cost-effective procurement of high-quality feed (Veg/ Non-Veg), fodder, and nutritional supplements required for various animal species.

The role involves vendor development, quality monitoring, inventory coordination and compliance with animal welfare and food safety standards.

Preferred candidate profile

• Prepare monthly and seasonal feed procurement plans based on animal population, diet charts, and veterinary recommendations.
• Identify, evaluate, and empanel reliable vendors for different categories Green/ dry fodder, poultry, fish, grains, fruits, etc.
• Negotiate rates, terms, and delivery schedules to ensure cost efficiency along with seasonal variations in feed availability and pricing.
• Issue purchase orders as per departmental SOPs against approved indent and ensure timely deliveries along with acceptance of supplied materials from veterinary and nutrition teams.
• Coordinate with finance and accounts for timely vendor payments and documentation.
• Conduct periodic vendor audits to ensure hygiene, ethical sourcing, and quality compliance and to be ensure feed items meet prescribed standards of nutrition and safety for animal consumption.
• Support user team to maintaining minimum and buffer stock levels for critical feed items such as meat, fish, grains, fruits, vegetables, hay, and other supplements.
• Understand & Maintain compliance with Food Safety and Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) guidelines.
• Preparation of monthly and annual procurement reports and budgets
• Liaise with veterinary officers, animal keepers, and nutrition experts for continuous improvement in diet management.
• Experience in Handling sourcing of import items along with proper documentation, coordination with logistics and customs for timely clearance, and ensuring compliance with international trade regulations and cost efficiency.

Skills & Competencies

• Knowledge of animal feed types, nutrition, and storage requirements.
• Strong negotiation and vendor management skills.
• Understanding of procurement regulations and tendering processes.
• Proficiency in MS Excel / ERP systems for inventory and procurement tracking.
• Excellent coordination, documentation, and communication abilities.
