The School of Digital Media and Communication at Mahindra University invites applications for Faculty positions. The School of Digital Media and Communication at Mahindra University seeks a competent Assistant Professor starting 15 January 2025 or earlier, with capabilities to teach and research a variety of subjects in one or more areas of media studies or communication management. We may consider the position of Associate Professor in exceptional cases. Mahindra University was established in 2020 under The Telangana State Private Universities (Establishment and Regulation) Act, 2018. The University today has well over 4,000 undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral students across the École Centrale School of Engineering, the School of Management, the School of Law, the Indira School of Education, and the School of Digital Media and Communication. The School of Digital Media and Communication is our fledgling institution, having been established in the autumn of 2023 with a vision to offer a judiciously triangulated approach of emerging technology, humanities and social sciences to generate thinking graduates with functional, conceptual and ethical competencies. The School currently offers three programmes—Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Mass Communication (BJMC), Bachelor of Technology in Computation & Media (BTech CM), Master of Arts in Journalism and Mass Communication (MJMC), and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Media & Communication. The professor we seek will teach in both the programmes and will bring experience both as a practitioner and a professor. They will have a deep, understanding, both operational and critical, of one or more of the following categories: Contemporary Media Communication, particularly Radio-Podcast Production, Audio Technology Contemporary and Emerging Advertising and Brand Communication Public Relations, Reputation Management, Strategic Communication, Social Media, Digital Strategy Contemporary and Emerging Media Technology, Digital Humanities, Tech Policy Animation, Modelling, VFX, Game Design Our courses are designed to include concepts and hands-on work, and faculty members are competent in both. Our state-of-the-art studio and labs range from conventional to digital and emerging production. In addition, all our faculty members are expected to engage in bringing in best global minds on campus, participate in scholarly speaking opportunities, write and publish. Candidates with superior backgrounds of journal publications and clear research plans for the next few years are strongly preferred. A strong portfolio in related research and practice will help the candidature. We particularly seek in our ideal candidate the ability to straddle the theory-to-practice distance in the classroom and build competencies that are conceptual, professional, and ethical. Our Assistant Professor candidate will hold a PhD from a reputed university along with at least a few years’ teaching experience at the undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels. Recent experience in professional practice of media and communication will be preferred. Professor of Practice applications will be actively considered in addition to the academic position. If the candidate seeks to be a Professor of Practice, PhD is preferred but not required: In that case, a master’s or a terminal degree and at least 15 years of senior professional experience will be required. Other UGC norms of definitions will apply. We lay special emphasis on ethical practices. The successful candidate will come with a strong understanding of ethics and ethical standards of professional, writing, academic and research and/or professional practice.
