Faculty Position in Sports and Fitness Occupational Minor

We invite applications for faculty position in Sports and Fitness Occupational Minor for our Undergraduate Programme.

The Sports and Fitness Occupational Minor programme at Azim Premji University follows a transdisciplinary design which combines knowledge bases of the health sciences, physical education, and demands of the sports and fitness industry. This unique programme aims to nurture compassionate, knowledgeable, and skilled facilitators who can be a significant part of the expanding world of sports and fitness industry as well as sports for development and peace initiatives.

Candidates with an advanced degree, in one of the fields related to Sports Studies such as, Physical Education, Sports Sciences, Sport for Development and Peace, Exercise Physiology, Sports Philosophy, Sociology of Sports, and Sports Biomechanics are encouraged to apply. Alternatively, we encourage applications from practitioners with considerable years of experience in the sports and fitness industry or sports for development organisations. We are particularly keen on candidates who can contribute to fostering an inclusive and welcoming sports culture on campus.

Azim Premji University, Bhopal, started operations in August 2023, offering postgraduate and undergraduate programmes. The first phase of campus construction is complete and the overall 50-acre campus with state-of-the-art academic and residential facilities will be ready over the next few years. We expect to grow to about 4000 students and 500 members over the next few years.

In addition to teaching in our programmes, we offer faculty an enriching and fulfilling institution building experience encompassing interdisciplinary programme design, setting up and implementation of key institutional processes, culture building, and participation in various institutional bodies. The University encourages and offers support to faculty members for pursuing their own research.

We seek applicants who identify with the purpose of the University, and are keen to contribute to the design, development and delivery of courses in our undergraduate programme.

Responsibilities

• Teaching courses that are part of Sports and Fitness Occupational Minor curriculum.
• Mentoring sports clubs on campus.
• Designing and teaching sports-based courses (creative expressions or flexible credits courses).
• Using sports and fitness activities to build inclusive and sustainable communities.
• Using sports and fitness activities to work on building social equity across gender, caste, class, region and race.

Requirements:

• Expertise and experience in one of the areas listed above.
• A relevant advanced degree, preferably a PhD in a field related to Sports Studies is desirable.
• Teaching or research experience after an advanced degree is desirable.
• Practitioners without an advanced degree in sports should have significant experience in the sports and fitness sector or sport-based community programs in development Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs).
• Proficiency in one or more sports and a willingness to mentor sports clubs on campus.
• A commitment to the University’s aims of education for public service.
