Job Description

We are looking for an HR Director to guide us through our most critical phase: scaling from 10 to 100 employees. You will not be inheriting a well-oiled machine; you will be building the engine while we drive the car. You will be the architect of our remote culture, the guardian of our team’s mental health, and a key advocate for using our own AI technology to streamline people operations.


Key Responsibilities


1. Scaling from 10 to 100 (Remote First)

  • Build the Foundation: Design and implement scalable HR infrastructure that supports a fully remote, distributed workforce.
  • Talent Acquisition: Lead aggressive but quality-focused hiring sprints. You will define our "bar" for talent and ensure our remote onboarding process makes new hires feel connected from Day 1.
  • Remote Culture Architecture: Create rituals, communication guidelines, and events that bridge time zones and prevent isolation in a remote environment.

2. Wellbeing: Managing Stress & Burnout (Critical Focus)

  • Proactive Detection: You will be responsible for implementing "early warning systems" to spot signs of burnout (e.g., cynicism, withdrawal, erratic hours) before they become crises.
  • Professional Handling: Move beyond generic wellness perks. You will design professional workflows for handling mental health conversations, ensuring legal compliance and genuine support without overstepping boundaries.
  • Sustainable Pace: Work with leadership to audit workloads. You are empowered to push back on unrealistic deadlines if they threaten the team's long-term health.
  • The "Right to Disconnect": Champion asynchronous work practices that respect time zones and allow deep work without the pressure of instant responsiveness.

3. People, Conflict & Mediation

  • Conflict Resolution: Act as a fair, empathetic, and decisive mediator. You will handle interpersonal conflicts with high emotional intelligence, ensuring disputes are resolved in a way that restores trust.
  • Psychological Safety: Foster an environment where distinct voices are heard. You will train managers on how to give difficult feedback remotely without eroding trust.

What We Are Looking For


  • The "Builder" Experience: Proven experience scaling a startup from roughly 10 to 100 headcount. You know exactly what breaks at 30 employees and again at 80, and you know how to fix it.
  • Remote Expert: You have managed HR for a fully remote or distributed team and understand the nuances of asynchronous communication.
  • Tech & AI Optimist: You don’t fear AI replacing you; you are excited to use it to make your job more strategic. You follow the latest developments in AI and automation.
  • High EQ & Resilience: You are passionate about people, not just policy. You are comfortable navigating the emotional highs and lows of startup life.
  • Crisis Competence: You have specific experience handling delicate employee relations issues, including burnout, performance improvement plans (PIPs), and terminations, with dignity and professionalism.
