Job Description

  • We are seeking an experienced and strategic Director of Compliance & Legal to lead and manage the legal, compliance, and regulatory functions for our US and Canada operations.
  • This role is crucial in ensuring that all aspects of our business align with local and international legal standards, particularly in the context of US Staffing operations conducted from India.
  • You will work closely with leadership, HR, operations, and finance to ensure legal soundness and risk mitigation across the organisation.


Requirements:

  • A self-driven, strategic thinker with the ability to operate independently and as part of a global team.
  • Deep understanding of both Indian corporate and labor law, with exposure to US and Canada business legalities (especially in staffing).
  • Proven experience leading compliance, risk, and legal functions for mid-to-large organizations.
  • Strong judgment and discretion in handling sensitive and confidential matters.
  • Proactive in identifying legal risks and implementing mitigation strategies.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB); LLM preferred.
  • Minimum 10+ years of experience in corporate legal and compliance roles, preferably within the staffing, recruitment, or IT services sector.
  • In-depth knowledge of US and Canada labor laws, contract law, data protection norms, and international compliance standards.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and the ability to influence senior leadership.
  • Experience with cross-border legal frameworks and client compliance requirements is a plus.


Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and oversee internal compliance programs, controls, and processes.
  • Provide legal counsel on Indian labor laws, company policies, vendor contracts, and cross-border operations.
  • Review and negotiate commercial agreements, NDAs, client contracts, and service-level agreements.
  • Ensure compliance with US Staffing-related legal standards, including data protection, taxation implications, and employee classifications (W-2/1099/C2C).
  • Serve as the point of contact for regulatory authorities, legal advisors, and statutory bodies.
  • Partner with HR to ensure labor law compliance (PF, ESIC, Shops & Establishments Act, etc.).
  • Conduct regular audits and risk assessments, and implement necessary remediation plans.
  • Provide training and awareness sessions on legal and compliance matters to internal teams.
  • Stay updated on changes in applicable laws and regulatory guidelines.
