Job Description

A desktop support technician job description involves installing, configuring, maintaining, and repairing hardware and software to ensure optimal workstation performance and resolve end-user technical issues. Key responsibilities include responding to support tickets, providing remote or in-person assistance, troubleshooting problems for employees, maintaining system updates, managing IT assets, and offering training on hardware and software usage. The goal is to minimize downtime and ensure the smooth, secure operation of an organization's computer systems and network. Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Support:Provide technical assistance and answer questions for users experiencing hardware, software, or network issues.
  • Installation & Configuration:Install and configure new hardware, software, operating systems, and peripherals for users.
  • Troubleshooting:Diagnose and resolve complex technical problems for end-users in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Maintenance & Upgrades:Perform routine maintenance, apply security patches, and upgrade systems to ensure performance and security.
  • Asset Management:Track and document IT assets, and assist in hardware procurement and planning for future needs.
  • User Training:Train end-users on proper hardware and software usage to improve their efficiency and reduce support requests.
  • Documentation:Maintain detailed logs of technical issues, solutions, and user interactions in a ticketing system.
  • Remote Support:Provide support to remote users, often involving remote troubleshooting techniques.

Required Skills

  • Hardware & Software Expertise:Strong knowledge of various hardware components, operating systems (e.g., Windows), and common software applications.
  • Troubleshooting & Problem-Solving:Ability to diagnose technical issues, analyze root causes, and implement effective solutions.
  • Customer Service:Excellent communication skills and a customer-focused approach to assist users effectively.
  • Technical Skills:Familiarity with installing, configuring, and maintaining computer systems and peripherals.
  • Time Management:Ability to prioritize tasks, respond promptly to support requests, and manage workload efficiently.
