Job Profile: Deputy Editor - Entertainment Desk

The Deputy Editor- Entertainment Desk will lead and manage the entertainment team, overseeing all aspects of content creation and newsroom operations related to films, television, OTT, celebrities, lifestyle, and popular culture. The role demands sharp editorial judgement, creativity, and the ability to set the tone for engaging, fast-paced, and factually correct entertainment coverage.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for planning and executing content strategy, coordinating with reporters, shift heads, senior sub-editors, sub-editors, and multimedia teams, and ensuring high-quality stories that resonate with a digital-first audience. They should be able to balance breaking news with in-depth features, trend analysis, and innovative formats to strengthen Jagran.com’s entertainment coverage.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the Entertainment Desk and manage daily editorial workflow.
• Curate and prioritize stories across films, OTT, TV, music, celebrity, fashion, and lifestyle segments.
• Ensure accuracy, speed, and engaging storytelling in all content.
• Guide the team in headline writing, editing, and packaging for digital platforms.
• Monitor real-time developments, industry trends, and social media buzz to keep coverage ahead of the curve.
• Collaborate with video, design, and social media teams for multimedia-rich storytelling.
• Uphold the ethical journalism standards of Dainik Jagran Group while experimenting with fresh content formats.
• Mentor and build the entertainment team, fostering creativity and accountability.
• Support the Editor in strategic planning, content innovation, and audience engagement growth.

Qualifications:

• Postgraduate in Journalism, Mass Communication, or a related field.
• 12 years of newsroom experience, with a focus on entertainment journalism (digital experience preferred).
• Strong leadership, communication, and team management skills.
• Deep understanding of entertainment industry dynamics and audience preferences.
• Ability to ideate stories keeping audience age groups and demographics in mind.
• Should know Canva and be comfortable using digital tools for content packaging.
• Ability to multitask under pressure and deliver results in a deadline-driven environment.
