Programming 1003 Job Description POSITION PURPOSE The position is responsible for developing the content strategy for the channel and curating content in alignment with the channel’s brand positioning and target audience’s preferences and consumption patterns to maintain loyalty of existing consumers, and acquire new consumers by innovation in content. POSITION CONTEXT The position is expected to have a good understanding of its target audience, their preferences, consumption patterns, environmental variables that may affect their viewership. The role is to provide creative inputs, at the same time keep a tab on execution of the operational aspects. POSITION SPECIFICATION Education Graduate/ Post-graduate degree in mass communication or any allied degree (Creative capabilities will be given a preference over educational qualification for this role) Experience 10 to 15 years of experience in television broadcast industry, with relevant content curation experience POSITION INTERLINKAGES WITHIN THE ORGANIZATION OUTSIDE THE ORGANIZATION Marketing team Production houses OAP team Media houses Post Production team Creative Talent – writers, directors, artists etc. Ad-sales team Research and Consumer Insights team Finance and commercial team Digital team TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES BEHAVIORAL COMPETENCIES Understanding the existing and evolving needs of the consumer / market trends Creative Thinking Understanding of existing producers and production houses in the market to be able to choose a right fit for the channel Customer Centricity Understanding of content in terms of storytelling, production value, sound, casting etc. Communication skills Updated on the latest trends in the world of entertainment globally Building impactful partnerships Innovation Stakeholder Management AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY # AREA KEY ACTIVITIES KEY METRICS Programming strategy development Scan and understand the existing and evolving needs of the consumer and identify avenues for innovation and content creation to help attain channel strategy Pulse of the consumer Jointly with the Channel Head and core team members, support the creation of the programing strategy for the channel keeping in mind consumer trends, channel strategy and brand positioning Market share Track competition and strategize short to long term strategy roadmap for content on the channel in alignment with existing brand positioning and enhance the brand value of the channel Adherence to strategy: planned Vs actuals Liaison with Research and Insights to gauge how the content is being received by the consumers, and devise action plans to ensure greater consumer loyalty and deeper penetration through consumer acquisition in newer regions Review execution plans for each of the parameter of the programming strategy for the assigned properties, tweak strategy based on performance of properties Review adherence to assigned budgets and effectively manage budgets vis a vie the desired content and production value Review and control (pre and post production) Develop and review content ideas, filter and shortlist ideas for further execution Increase in viewership Oversee the creation of overall show story line, casting, scripting, set design, and costume design; Provide requisite feedback to internal team as well as production houses as required Consumer retention Jointly with team, review rough cuts of the initial episodes of a new show and share creative inputs and feedback. Show performance Present new episodes to Channel Head and CEO for their feedback and seek go ahead Channel performance in terms of GRPs and reach Track performance of the property with the team on a weekly basis and brainstorm for changes / course correction as required Relationship management with partners Evaluate producer / production house to suit the channel’s content requirements and overall alignment with the existing brand positioning Quality of the content and its alignment with channel requirement Coordinate with Legal and commercial team to firm up specific high value contracts and negotiations Marketing effectiveness Coordinate with ad-sales team to share programming strategy (long and short term) to formulate monetization and revenue strategy Adherence to promo schedules Liaison with internal OAP team / Marketing team / external agencies to launch campaigns / promos and deploy effective marketing strategy in line with the programming strategy Smooth functioning with partners Managing team performance Track team performance at an overall and individual level and provide support/ guidance wherever required to ensure achievement of yearly plans Team engagement score Manage effective resource allocation, enhance the capability quotient of team members and drive higher team engagement through appropriate HR interventions Attrition Succession pipeline creation through team capability building
