Role Overview

We are looking for a sharp, proactive Cost Controller & Cashflow Manager to join our finance team. This individual will be the company’s watchdog for all expenses and cash movements—ensuring that every spend is justified, optimized, and aligned with company priorities. The role requires a hands-on, detail-oriented professional who can challenge costs, implement processes, and maintain tight control over payables and receivables.

Key Responsibilities

Cost Control & Expense Optimization

  • Scrutinize every company expense for necessity, value, and accuracy.
  • Question and seek justifications from respective departments before approvals.
  • Benchmark vendor pricing and ensure we are getting the best rates across recurring and one-time expenses.
  • Flag any abnormal or unbudgeted expenditures for management review.
  • Create a culture of cost-consciousness across departments.

Expense Process & Policy Design

  • Review and redesign if needed SOPs for expense approvals, thresholds, and payment timelines.
  • Recommend and implement automation tools or systems to streamline expense reporting and approvals.
  • Monitor adherence to approved budgets and ensure departments stay within limits.
  • Conduct periodic reviews of recurring expenses and subscriptions to identify savings or redundancies.

Cashflow Planning & Management

  • Maintain a rolling 12-week cashflow tracker updated weekly.
  • Monitor incoming receivables
  • Track and plan outgoing payments with clarity on payment dates, urgency, and deferral possibilities.
  • Flag cashflow bottlenecks in advance and propose short-term bridging solutions if needed.
  • Prepare weekly cash position reports and payment schedules for leadership.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (MBA Finance preferred but not mandatory if experience is solid).
  • 7–10 years of relevant experience in finance, cashflow management, or cost control, preferably in a mid-sized or fast-growing company.
  • Strong analytical mindset with a questioning attitude.
  • Excellent command over Excel and basic financial software tools.
  • Bonus: Familiarity with tools like QuickBooks or any budgeting/cashflow platforms.

Personality Fit

  • Assertive but collaborative.
  • Naturally curious and critical thinker.
  • Comfortable saying “no” or “not yet” to expense requests.
  • Thrives in a fast-paced, founder-driven environment where cost discipline and cashflow visibility are key.
