Role Overview
We are looking for a News reporter/strategist to support the US Politics vertical at news.meaww.com/politics for our News Video Team. The candidate will monitor U.S. political news and social media throughout the day, quickly identifying and flagging key stories with verified facts from trusted sources. They will source relevant clips and photos, drafting concise briefs including titles, hooks, and three main points for video editors to produce timely, engaging content. Collaboration with video editors for smooth production, efficient communication on task status, and suggesting ongoing improvements to content formats are essential. The role demands a strong interest or quick learning drive for U.S. politics, experience working with creative/video teams, understanding of social media platforms like YouTube Shorts and TikTok, and the ability to write clear, catchy titles and scripts optimised for viewer engagement within the first few seconds. Basic video editing knowledge and thumbnail creation skills are advantageous.This role requires reliability under tight deadlines, sharp news judgment, and clear communication to ensure editorial efficiency and content impact.
Requirements
What you’ll do
- Watch U.S. political news and social feeds through the day and flag the best stories fast.
- Double-check facts with two trusted sources before we move.
- Find usable clips/photos and write a short brief for editors (title, hook, 3 key points).
- Work with video editors to get the cut out quickly and cleanly.
- Share quick status updates: what’s in progress, what’s next, and when it’s ready.
- Review results weekly and suggest small improvements to titles, hooks, and formats.
What We’re Looking For
- Strong interest in U.S. politics (or the drive to learn fast).
- Experience working in a creative/video team and collaborating with editors.
- You understand how social media works (YouTube Shorts, TikTok, Instagram Reels).
- You can write clear, punchy titles, hooks, and short scripts.
- Organized, reliable, and comfortable working on quick turnarounds.
- Basic sense of what makes a video clickable in the first 3–5 seconds.

Nice to have
- Prior newsroom or short-form news experience.
