Consultant Microbiologist

Key Responsibilities:

• Supervise and guide microbiological testing of clinical specimens including blood, urine, pus, stool, sputum, swabs, and body fluids.
• Interpret and validate results of culture and sensitivity, Gram staining, AFB staining, fungal cultures, anaerobic cultures, and molecular tests (e.g., PCR).
• Ensure compliance with NABL, CAP, or ISO standards for quality assurance in microbiology.
• Provide expert opinions and clinical correlations to treating physicians regarding infectious diseases and antimicrobial therapy.
• Supervise laboratory staff and provide technical training in microbiology techniques and safety protocols.
• Monitor and advise on antibiotic stewardship and hospital infection control measures.
• Participate in clinical audits, case discussions, and infection surveillance programs within the hospital or diagnostic lab.
• Oversee the procurement, maintenance, and calibration of microbiology lab instruments such as BACTEC, VITEK, and biosafety cabinets.
• Review and update standard operating procedures (SOPs) regularly.
• Contribute to research activities, publications, and CME programs, if applicable.

Qualifications:

• MBBS with MD in Microbiology from a recognized institution.
• Registration with the Medical Council of India (MCI)/State Medical Council.

Experience:

• 3–8 years of experience in a diagnostic or hospital microbiology lab.
• Prior experience in infection control and antimicrobial stewardship is preferred.

Required Skills:

• Strong expertise in clinical microbiology and diagnostic techniques.
• Excellent communication and team leadership skills.
• Proficiency in quality management systems and laboratory accreditation processes.
• Good understanding of hospital-acquired infections (HAIs), outbreak investigation, and reporting.
• Ability to work closely with clinicians, infection control teams, and lab technicians.

Pay: Up to ₹2,600,000.00 per year
