Job Description

We’re Hiring: Computer Lab Technician & Assistant

Location: St. Joan’s Primary School
Reports to: Head of IT & Operations / Academic Coordinator

Role Purpose
The Computer Lab Technician & Assistant will be responsible for the smooth operation, maintenance, and management of the school’s computer laboratories, IT infrastructure, and CCTV surveillance systems. The role ensures reliability and security across computers, servers, networking, and campus surveillance equipment, while also supporting classroom learning and administrative IT needs.

Key Responsibilities

Lab Management

  • Ensure daily readiness of computer labs for classes (systems switched on, software pre-loaded, projectors/AV working).
  • Provide technical assistance to teachers and students during lab sessions.
  • Supervise students during lab use, ensuring proper handling of equipment.
  • Maintain discipline and ensure adherence to lab rules.

Hardware & Software Maintenance

  • Install, configure, and update operating systems and software.
  • Troubleshoot desktops, laptops, printers, scanners, projectors, and smart boards.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and maintain logs of issues and repairs.
  • Manage antivirus, security patches, and updates across all machines.

Networking & Servers

  • Maintain and troubleshoot LAN/WAN, Wi-Fi, routers, switches, and hubs.
  • Oversee school’s local server, backup systems, and cloud integration.
  • Monitor and maintain user accounts, file sharing, and permissions.
  • Ensure reliable internet connectivity and liaise with service providers when needed.

CCTV & Security Systems

  • Install, configure, and maintain CCTV cameras, DVR/NVR systems, and surveillance software.
  • Regularly check and back up footage as per school protocols.
  • Troubleshoot connectivity or recording issues.
  • Liaise with vendors for camera upgrades, repairs, and AMC support.
  • Ensure all CCTV equipment is functional for safety and compliance.

Asset & Inventory Management

  • Maintain updated records of computers, CCTV units, and peripherals.
  • Track software licenses, warranties, and AMC (Annual Maintenance Contracts).
  • Recommend upgrades/replacements and prepare reports for management.

Support & Training

  • Provide basic IT training to staff (using Google Workspace, MS Office, ERP, etc.).
  • Assist in the setup of online assessments, smart classrooms, and robotics labs.
  • Provide IT support during events, presentations, and workshops.

Qualifications & Skills

Educational Background

  • Diploma/Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • Vendor certifications preferred: CompTIA A+/N+, CCNA, MCSE, CCTV installation/management certification.

Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of Windows, Linux, and basic Mac environments.
  • Installation & troubleshooting of hardware, peripherals, and CCTV systems.
  • Experience with networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP).
  • Proficiency in managing LAN, servers, routers, switches, firewalls.
  • Familiarity with CCTV surveillance systems, DVR/NVR, IP cameras.
  • Knowledge of backup systems, antivirus, and network security.

Personal Skills

  • Analytical and problem-solving skills with a service-oriented approach.
  • Good communication and ability to work with staff, students, and vendors.
  • Integrity, reliability, and attention to detail.

Experience

  • 2–5 years of IT support, system administration, and CCTV management.
  • Prior experience in an educational institution or managing lab/IT infrastructure is an advantage.

Reporting & Accountability

  • Reports to Head of IT & Operations.
  • Works closely with teachers, students, and academic coordinators.
  • Accountable for uptime of systems, security of IT infrastructure, and CCTV readiness.
