Job Description

In this role as a Commis III specializing in Continental cuisine at Pema Wellness Retreat, your main responsibilities will include: - Assisting in the preparation of ingredients for daily menus, such as washing, peeling, chopping, and portioning vegetables, fruits, and other food items. - Preparing simple dishes under the supervision of senior chefs, ensuring adherence to recipes and portion sizes. - Learning and applying wellness-focused culinary techniques as per the prescribed standard operating procedure. - Providing support to the Chef de Partie and other senior kitchen staff in executing daily culinary tasks. - Assisting in the preparation of dishes for special diets, such as gluten-free, vegan, or allergy-friendly meals. - Helping with plating and presentation to ensure dishes meet the resort's high standards for aesthetics and quality. - Maintaining a clean and organized workstation, following all food safety and hygiene regulations. - Participating in daily cleaning tasks, including washing utensils, cleaning work surfaces, and disposing of waste. - Ensuring that all food storage areas are clean, organized, and properly labeled. - Taking an active role in learning new skills and techniques from senior chefs, particularly in health-conscious cooking methods. - Attending training sessions and workshops to enhance culinary knowledge and skills. - Showing initiative in understanding the wellness philosophy of the resort and how it translates into the culinary offerings. - Assisting in receiving, checking, and storing deliveries of fresh produce and other ingredients. - Learning to handle and store ingredients properly to maintain freshness and prevent spoilage. - Supporting inventory management by keeping track of ingredient usage and reporting any shortages or quality issues. - Understanding and contributing to the resort's wellness goals by preparing food that supports a balanced, healthy lifestyle. - Continuously seeking to improve personal culinary practices to better serve the health and wellness needs of guests. Qualifications for this role include: - High school diploma or equivalent. A basic culinary certification or diploma in culinary arts is preferred. - 1-3 years of experience in a kitchen environment, preferably in a wellness-focused or luxury hospitality setting. - Basic knowledge of culinary techniques and food preparation. - Ability to follow instructions and work effectively in a team. - Good organizational skills and attention to detail. - Basic understanding of food safety and hygiene practices. - A willingness to learn and develop new skills. - A positive attitude and a strong work ethic. - A passion for wellness and healthy living.
