You will operate and program the HOMAG DRILLTEQ V-200 vertical CNC machining centre. This machine is designed for drilling, routing and grooving panel‐shaped workpieces in a compact footprint (approx. 5 m²) and is particularly suited for high-precision, flexible, just-in-time furniture or interior-fit-out production. Your role will not only involve day‐to‐day machine operation but will also contribute to continuous improvement, digital integration (software, workflow), and future automation strategies.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up, program and operate the HOMAG DRILLTEQ V-200 to perform drilling, routing and grooving operations on panel workpieces:
- Ensure correct clamping, fixture and positioning of workpieces. homag.com+1
- Load or select the correct drilling/routing program, adjust parameters as needed (e.g., drill speeds, feeds, tool changes).
- Monitor and maintain machine operations, perform quality checks on processed parts (dimensional accuracy, hole locations, groove geometry).
- Change tools, maintain the tooling magazine and perform quick tool change operations (the DRILLTEQ V-200 offers automatic tool change magazine with up to 4 positions) homag.com+2homag.com+2
- Use the software suite provided (e.g., woodWOP, materialManager, productionManager) to program parts, manage material stocks, and track job progress. homag.com+1
- Implement and monitor quality‐assurance features: for example the machine’s plausibility check (sensing X/Y workpiece position vs database) and length‐dependent processing in the X‐direction for compensating tolerances. homag.com+1
- Perform routine maintenance (cleaning, lubrication, checks) and ensure the machine is in optimal condition.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives: analyse production data, reduce setup/changeover time, optimise tool life, contribute to digital/Industry 4.0 integration (e.g., data capture, linking machine to workflow system).
- Collaborate with engineering/maintenance/production teams to integrate the DRILLTEQ V-200 into the broader manufacturing workflow (feed in panels, post-machining handling, linking to other machines or automation).
- Maintain safe work practices: adhere to machine safety protocols, ensure extraction/ventilation systems are functioning (especially for milling/grooving operations) homag.com+1
- Troubleshoot basic machine problems and escalate as needed. Provide feedback to vendors or in-house maintenance for deeper issues.
Required Skills & Experience
- Diploma or certificate in Mechanical/Manufacturing/Mechatronics or equivalent.
- Prior experience operating CNC machining centres (preferably in woodworking/panel furniture/interior fit‐out manufacturing).
- Familiarity with CNC programming (preferably using woodWOP or equivalent) and ability to read CAD drawings or job specifications.
- Strong mechanical aptitude, understanding of tooling, feeds/velocities, wear patterns, tool changes.
- Good quality attention: ability to measure/inspect parts (hole locations, grooves, thickness, width).
- Comfortable with digital workflows/software for material management, job tracking, and linking machine data.
- Good communication skills, ability to work in a team, willingness to contribute to improvements.
- Forward‐thinking mindset: open to automation, data analytics, linking machine outputs to production KPIs and digital systems.
Preferred Attributes
- Experience with HOMAG machines or similar panel processing machining centres is a plus.
- Knowledge of woodworking panel materials (MDF, particleboard, laminate, melamine) and their machining behaviour (thicknesses 12-60 mm, widths up to 850 mm, lengths up to 2,500/3,050 mm) homag.com+1
- Experience in reducing setup times, implementing tooling strategies, and applying Industry 4.0 concepts (sensor data, machine monitoring, predictive maintenance).
- Proactive attitude towards machine upgrades, software updates, integration with upstream/downstream systems (material handling, robotics, ejection conveyors).
Performance Indicators
- Machine uptime / utilisation %
- Quality first-pass yield (holes/grooves within tolerance)
- Setup/changeover time per job
- Tooling cost per part / tool life
- Scrap/correction rate
- Accurate recording of production data (jobs processed, time, materials)
- Contribution to continuous improvement projects (e.g., automation, workflow linking)
Working Conditions
- Manufacturing floor environment, exposure to wood dust, noise, moving parts. Use of PPE required.
- Shift pattern may apply (based on production schedule).
- Frequent handling of panels, loading/unloading workpieces; some lifting may be required (panels up to e.g., 850mm width, thickness up to 60mm) homag.com+1
- Close coordination with production scheduling, engineering, maintenance.
