Defence Systems is being positioned as a strategic defence technology company, aligned with Atmanirbhar Bharat, Make-I/II, iDEX, and MoD indigenisation priorities.
The companys focus spans defence electronics testing, repair, reverse engineering, lifecycle sustainment, and new ventures in emerging defence technologies.
Role Purpose:
The CEO will be responsible for conceptualising, building, and scaling Qmax’s defence business into a credible and trusted partner of the Indian Armed Forces, DRDO, DPSUs, and defence OEMs.
This is a builder’s role, requiring deep understanding of defence procurement, technology development, and ecosystem partnerships, combined with strong commercial and leadership capabilities.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership & Vision
Define and execute the long-term strategy and roadmap for Qmax Defence Systems.
Identify and develop defence-specific product lines, solutions, and services, including:
PCB testing, diagnostics, and repair for military systems
Obsolescence management and life-cycle support
Reverse engineering and indigenisation of critical electronic subsystems
New ventures in emerging defence technologies (EW, drones, AI-enabled test systems, rugged electronics, etc.)
Align company strategy with MoD policies, indigenisation lists, and future capability gaps.
Business Development & Growth
Establish and grow business with:
Indian Army, Navy, Air Force
DRDO labs and test establishments
DPSUs (BEL, HAL, BDL, etc.)
Private defence primes and MSMEs
Drive participation in RFPs, Make-I/II, iDEX, TDF, and strategic procurement programs.
Build a strong order book and ensure sustainable revenue growth.
Technology & Product Stewardship
Oversee development of indigenous test and diagnostic solutions tailored to defence requirements.
Guide R&D investments and partnerships with:
DRDO, academia, and Centres of Excellence
Start-ups and niche technology firms
Ensure products meet military standards (MIL, JSS, CEMILAC, DGQA).
Operations & Governance
Build and lead a high-calibre multidisciplinary team (engineering, QA, BD, compliance).
Establish robust program management, quality, and compliance frameworks.
Ensure adherence to defence procurement procedures, security protocols, and export controls.
Stakeholder & Ecosystem Engagement
Serve as the principal interface with:
MoD, Service HQs, DRDO, and regulatory bodies
Industry associations and defence forums
Represent Qmax Defence Systems at national and international defence exhibitions and conferences.
Build strategic alliances and joint ventures, both domestic and global (where permitted).
Qualifications & Experience:
Essential
Graduate degree in Engineering / Technology (Electronics, Electrical, Aerospace preferred).
20+ years of experience in defence, aerospace, electronics, or strategic technology sectors.
Proven leadership in:
Defence programs, system engineering, or high-reliability electronics
Business development within the Indian defence ecosystem
Strong understanding of:
MoD procurement processes
DRDO/DPSU working culture
Defence electronics lifecycle and sustainment challenges
Highly Desirable
Senior leadership experience in:
Armed Forces / DRDO / DPSU / Defence PSU / Tier-1 defence OEM
Exposure to testing, diagnostics, MRO, or electronics manufacturing.
Track record in indigenisation, Make projects, or technology transfer.
Personal Attributes:
Strategic thinker with hands-on execution capability.
High integrity, credibility, and comfort working with senior government and military leadership.
Entrepreneurial mindset with ability to build new businesses from the ground up.
Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills.
