Job Description

Chemical Compliance Engineer

Roles & Responsibilities:

    • Play a proactive role in the development and implementation of enterprise sustainability software platforms (such as Assent) addressing global substance regulations including REACH, RoHS, TSCA, and CA Prop 65.
    • Support alignment with industry trade group requirements and customer sustainability expectations.
    • Coordinate with third-party regulatory service providers to monitor global chemical substances regulations.
    • Assess potential impacts to operational material feedstocks and authorization of use scenarios.
    • Communicate updates to operations teams through regular web-based training and awareness programs.
    • Support the creation and rollout of a Global Chemical Management Standard, including chemical approval processes, risk assessments, and substitution programs.
    • Manage a third-party Safety Data Sheet (SDS) database to ensure accuracy and regulatory compliance.
    • Participate in meetings with regulatory agencies and industry standard organizations to contribute technical insights and promote science-based regulatory developments.
    • Implement and manage LCA software to evaluate environmental impacts of products.
    • Ensure product LCAs remain updated with evolving regulations and sustainability parameters.
    • Develop and execute policies and tools to support ISO 14025 Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) and compliance with Digital Product Passport and Circular Economy regulations.
    • Collect, review, and submit stewardship-related data for ESG reporting frameworks such as S&P SAM, CDP, and ISS.
    • Collaborate with sustainability and investor relations teams to provide relevant technical information.
    • Contribute to developing a roadmap for transitioning stewardship programs from reactive to proactive and eventually predictive approaches.
    • Continuously improve processes to ensure global compliance and sustainability performance.
    • Work closely with global business units, operations, and functional teams to support product stewardship initiatives.
    • Foster strong internal relationships and influence cross-functional teams to achieve sustainability and compliance objectives.
    • Assist in the implementation of various environmental, sustainability, and ESG-related projects as per organizational requirements.

Core Competencies:

  • Strong understanding of global chemical and environmental regulations (REACH, RoHS, TSCA, Prop 65).
  • Systems-based thinker with ability to manage complex compliance frameworks.
  • Proficient in EHS and sustainability software (e.g., Intelex, Assent).
  • Effective communicator with strong collaboration skills across multiple stakeholders.
  • Good project management and organizational skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite and conducting online training/webinars for a global audience.
  • Self-motivated, independent, and capable of managing multiple priorities effectively.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in

    Sustainability, Environmental, Chemical, Safety, Industrial, Mechanical, or Materials Engineering/Management

  • Minimum

    2+ years of experience

    in Environmental Compliance, Product Stewardship, or Sustainability roles.
