About the Role

AWS Data Governance Engineer


Key Responsibilities

Overall Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement data governance policies ensuring compliance with standards and regulations.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define and adopt governance best practices in AWS.
  • Monitor data quality, integrity, and lineage across AWS environments.
  • Drive the adoption of metadata management and data cataloging solutions.
  • Ensure data privacy and security controls align with organizational and legal requirements.
  • Provide governance insights and training to internal teams.


Technical Responsibilities:

  • Implement and manage AWS governance tools (AWS Lake Formation, AWS Glue Data Catalog).
  • Configure IAM policies, AWS KMS, and access controls for data security.
  • Enforce governance policies across AWS services (Redshift, S3, Athena, DynamoDB).
  • Develop monitoring and automation using AWS CloudTrail and AWS Config.
  • Design data classification, tagging, and lineage tracking (e.g., Apache Atlas).
  • Integrate governance controls into CI/CD workflows.
  • Collaborate with legal and compliance teams on frameworks like GDPR, CCPA, and HIPAA.

Preferred Experience

  • Proven experience designing and implementing AWS data governance frameworks.
  • Strong knowledge of data privacy, security, and compliance best practices.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS data services and IAM policies.
  • Experience with large-scale cloud-based data architectures.
  • Exposure to regulatory compliance initiatives (GDPR, HIPAA, CCPA).
  • Familiarity with automated governance enforcement and monitoring tools.


Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Data Management, Information Security, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Preferred:

    AWS Certified Data Analytics – Specialty or AWS Certified Security – Specialty.
  • Plus:

    Certifications in data governance frameworks (DCAM, DAMA, etc.).
