Purpose/Objective


    The Automation & SCADA Manager-Tx is responsible for providing high-quality technical support and ensuring prompt resolution of issues related to Substation Automation Systems (SAS) and communication systems across greenfield and brownfield transmission projects. The role involves supporting Substation Automation and Communications, contributing to value engineering, and assisting in Factory Acceptance Testing and commissioning of SCADA systems, FOTE, and PLCC systems across Thermal Projects, O&M, and Transmission initiatives. The position requires frequent travel across the country and internationally if needed, and it is critical in maintaining operational reliability, addressing technical challenges effectively, and enabling the seamless implementation of automation solutions to enhance system performance and meet organizational goals.

Key Responsibilities of Role


    Automation & SCADA Manager-Tx Operational Excellence: Enhance system reliability by conducting Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Commissioning of SAS and Communication Systems, ensuring compliance with quality benchmarks, timely project delivery, and uninterrupted operations. Minimize downtime by providing remote and on-site troubleshooting support for automation systems, ensuring timely issue resolution and improved system continuity. Achieve seamless grid operations by ensuring real-time data transfer from SCADA systems to Load Dispatch Centres (LDCs) and promptly resolving communication and data transfer issues. Assist in implementing automation systems and predictive tools to support risk mitigation and enhance system reliability. Safety Governance: Assist in ensuring compliance with safety standards by supporting the implementation of GOOSE and industrial protocol-based protection schemes. Strengthen system safety by conducting regular evaluations of SAS and communication systems, ensuring adherence to OT cybersecurity frameworks and industry-specific safety standards. Enhance safety practices across thermal and transmission substations by implementing secure protocols during upgrades and modifications, minimizing risks to operations and personnel. Technology and Innovation: Support the adoption of advanced technologies in SAS and communication systems, leveraging emerging tools to reduce risks and optimize performance. Assist in strengthening OT cybersecurity by supporting the implementation of advanced security protocols, conducting system audits, and ensuring compliance with global standards to minimize vulnerabilities. Utilize diagnostic tools and automation platforms to streamline workflows, enable informed decision-making, and improve system performance. Governance, Compliance, and Risk Management: Support cybersecurity risk mitigation by adhering to OT frameworks, assisting in resolving deviations, and strengthening governance protocols for enhanced system security. Ensure audit readiness by maintaining accurate records, implementing secure practices, and addressing vulnerabilities across automation systems to enhance compliance. Troubleshoot operational issues by supporting effective troubleshooting mechanisms and proactive issue identification to ensure uninterrupted operations. Stakeholder Management: Support project alignment by coordinating with internal teams and assisting in tasks related to OEMs, vendors, and regulatory bodies. Assist in resolving project challenges by supporting team coordination and ensuring task execution aligns with automation goals. Key Stakeholders - Internal Engineering & Projects Site Electrical Maintenance Team Business Development IT/Telecom/ Cyber Security Human Resources Techno-commercial/Finance Other Department Heads & Team at HO and Site Key Stakeholders - External Govt. Bodies a) Central Transmission Utility (CTU) b) State Transmission Utility (STU) c) Regional Load Dispatch Centres (NRLDC, WRLDC, ERLDC, SRLDC etc.) d) National Load Dispatch centres (NLDC) OEM (HEIL, GE, Siemens, Schneider, Kallki etc.) Vendors/Service Providers

Qualifications and Experience


    Educational Qualification: B.E. (Electrical/ Electronics & Communication) with 10- 15 years of Experience Work Experience (Range of years): Experience in Engineering, FAT & Commissioning of various OEM Substation Automation System, FOTE and PLCC system Expertise in application, and technology for Substation Automation System IEC61850 (SCD, ICD & CID, GOOSE), FOTE and PLCC Understanding of CRP scheme, IED configuration and RTU Understanding on Cyber security aspects of SCADA, FOTE, PLCC systems and components.
