Civil Engineer – WTP Project: Job Profile

1. Role Overview

• Designing and constructing civil structures like clarifiers, sedimentation tanks, filtration units, sludge handling systems, and reservoirs.
• Ensuring the plant layout and hydraulic flow meet design and operational requirements.
• Coordinating with mechanical, electrical, and process engineers for integrated project delivery.
• Managing on-site civil construction activities and ensuring quality, safety, and environmental compliance.

Key Responsibilities

A. Design Phase

• Prepare detailed designs and drawings for foundations, tanks, and other civil components.
• Develop General Arrangement Drawings (GADs) and Reinforcement Details (RCC drawings).
• Conduct hydraulic calculations, load analysis, and stability checks.
• Coordinate with process engineers to finalize plant layout and hydraulic profiles.
• Review and approve vendor drawings related to civil works.

B. Construction & Execution Phase

• Supervise excavation, shuttering, concreting, and waterproofing activities.
• Ensure adherence to design specifications and IS codes / IRC standards.
• Manage contractors, materials, and work schedules to meet project deadlines.
• Monitor quality control – cube testing, compaction tests, and curing.
• Maintain site safety and environmental compliance.
• Prepare progress reports, bar charts, and measurement books.

C. Coordination & Documentation

• Liaise with clients, consultants, and other engineering teams.
• Assist in BOQ preparation, tendering, and cost estimation.
• Prepare As-Built drawings and handover documentation.

D. Maintenance & Operation Support

• Inspect structural conditions during commissioning and operation.
• Recommend repair or retrofitting methods for damaged structures.
• Support in expansion or upgradation projects.

Skills Required

• Strong knowledge of structural design (RCC, steel, foundation design).
• Understanding of water treatment process flow and hydraulic design.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, STAAD Pro, Revit, MS Project / Primavera.
• Familiarity with IS codes, CPHEEO Manual, and BIS standards for water works.
• Site management, quality control, and safety management.
• Good communication and coordination skills.

Qualification

• B.E./B.Tech in Civil Engineering .
• M.E./M.Tech in Environmental Engineering / Water Resources (optional, adds value).
  Diploma In Civil Background also preffered.
• Additional certifications in Project Management (PMP / PRINCE2) or AutoCAD / STAAD are advantageous.
