Assistant Manager

Role & responsibilities

Safety Compliance & Legal Requirements

• Ensure strict compliance with the Factory Act, OSHA standards, and all statutory safety requirements.
  
• Maintain updated knowledge of safety laws, rules, and notifications.
  
• Facilitate internal and external safety audits; ensure timely closure of corrective actions.
  
• Prepare safety reports, MIS, and documentation required by regulatory bodies.
  

2. Risk Assessment & Safety Planning

• Conduct Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment (HIRA), Job Safety Analysis (JSA), and implement control measures.
  
• Develop and implement Safety Management Systems (SMS), including SOPs, Emergency Response Plans, and Work Permits.
  
• Monitor safe work practices and ensure effective implementation of LOTO, work-at-height, confined space, and hot work safety protocols.
  

3. Incident Management

• Investigate accidents, near-misses, and unsafe conditions; identify root causes using RCA tools.
  
• Prepare incident reports and implement preventive measures to avoid recurrence.
  

4. Training & Development

• Conduct regular safety training, toolbox talks, and employee awareness programs.
  
• Ensure contractor safety training and onboarding as per company standards.
  

5. Safety Equipment & Infrastructure

• Monitor and maintain fire safety systems, PPE inventory, and emergency equipment.
  
• Conduct inspections of machinery, electrical panels, and workplace areas for safety compliance.
  
• Ensure proper calibration and upkeep of gas detectors, alarms, and other safety devices.
  

6. Emergency Preparedness

• Lead mock drills (fire, evacuation, chemical spill, etc.).
  
• Train emergency response teams and coordinate with external agencies when needed.
  

7. Environment, Health & Sustainability Support

• Assist in implementing EHS policies, environmental compliance, and waste management systems.
  
• Promote workplace hygiene, ergonomics, and health initiatives.

Preferred candidate profile

Education & Certifications

• ADIS (Advanced Diploma in Industrial Safety) Mandatory

• Diploma / Bachelors degree in Engineering (Mechanical/ Electrical/ Chemical/ Production) preferred.
  
• Additional certifications like NEBOSH / IOSH / Fire & Safety will be an added advantage.
  

Experience

• 3–7 years of relevant experience

  in industrial / manufacturing / engineering / chemical plant safety.
• Hands-on experience in HIRA, LOTO, Work Permit System, Fire Safety, and Contractor Safety Management.
  

Technical Skills

• Strong knowledge of OSHA, Factory Act, IS standards, and statutory compliance.
  
• Ability to conduct incident investigation and prepare reports.
  
• Understanding of safety audits, safety documentation, and EHS systems.
  
• Familiar with firefighting systems, emergency response, and PPE selection.
  

Soft Skills

• Good communication and training skills.
  
• Leadership ability to enforce safety culture across the factory.
  
• Problem-solving and quick decision-making skills.
  
• Detail-oriented, proactive, and disciplined.
  

Other Requirements

• Should be able to work in shifts if required.
  
• Physically fit to conduct regular shop-floor inspections.
  
• Strong coordination with operations, maintenance, HR, and compliance teams.
