Job Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Accounts Executive to manage day-to-day accounting operations, payroll processing, reconciliations, and financial reporting. The role requires strong experience in Xero accounting software and advanced Excel proficiency to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with company and statutory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day accounting transactions including sales, purchases, receipts, and payments using Xero
  • Process staff payroll accurately and on time, including statutory deductions
  • Prepare and reconcile bank statements, supplier accounts, and client accounts
  • Maintain accurate financial records and ensure timely updates in Xero
  • Prepare invoices, manage credit control, and follow up on outstanding balances
  • Use Microsoft Excel to prepare reconciliations, payroll reports, financial breakdowns, and analysis
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities
  • Prepare financial reports and detailed breakdowns for management and clients
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, HMRC regulations, and statutory requirements
  • Liaise with banks, auditors, clients, and internal teams
  • Respond promptly and professionally to finance-related queries via email and phone

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Proven experience as an Accounts Executive or in a similar accounting role
  • Strong working knowledge of Xero accounting software
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Excel (formulas, spreadsheets, reconciliations, reporting)
  • Solid understanding of accounting principles and UK payroll processes
  • Excellent attention to detail with a high level of accuracy
  • Strong organisational and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines effectively

Desirable

  • Experience within the care or support services sector
  • Knowledge of UK payroll, pensions, and HMRC submissions
  • AAT qualification or equivalent (or working towards)
