Job Description

Job Description Embark on an exciting journey as a 2D Animator with an indie game studio that focusses on immersive gaming experiences for PC and console audiences worldwide. We are currently looking for a talented and detail-oriented 2D Animator specialising in frame-by-frame, hand-drawn animation to join our development team. In this role, you will be responsible for developing art assets and creating fluid, expressive, hand-drawn animations for characters, VFX, and environmental elements. You’ll work closely with our development team to ensure animations enhance gameplay, support narrative, and meet technical requirements. This is a hands-on position best suited for someone who is deeply passionate about traditional animation, visual storytelling, and crafting memorable player experiences in a game development environment. Location Bengaluru | On-site Role | 2D Animator Collaborate closely with the core team, including the game director, programmer, technical artist and the visual artist to conceptualise and develop hand-drawn animation sequences that align with the game’s tone and aesthetic vision. Create art assets for characters, environments, structures and other props. Illustrate and animate frame-by-frame sequences manually, ensuring smooth transitions, expressive movement and consistent in visual quality. Design and animate character poses, facial expressions, gestures, and environmental interactions that enhance the storytelling and gameplay. Respond constructively to feedback, iterating on animations to refine performance and narrative clarity. Adapt and implement animations into game engines (such as Unity and Unreal), considering real-time constraints, performance optimisation, and compatibility across platforms. Contribute to UI animation, motion graphics, and visual assets for in-game interfaces, cutscenes, and promotional content, aligning closely with the overall art style. Design and animate 2D VFX such as magic spells, explosions, and environmental interactions. Stay current with industry trends, tools, and techniques, and share useful insights or approaches with the rest of the team. Keep files organised and version-controlled to ensure clear communication and seamless collaboration within our small, agile team. Requirements and Qualifications Proven experience as a 2D Animator, with a strong emphasis on traditional frame-by-frame hand-drawn techniques, ideally demonstrated through a professional portfolio or showreel. Proficiency in industry-standard animation and design tools, including Adobe Animate, Toon Boom, TVPaint, After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Figma. Familiarity with 3D tools such as Blender is considered a plus. Solid understanding of classical animation principles such as timing, spacing, anticipation, squash and stretch, follow-through, and the ability to apply them meaningfully in a game context. Strong foundation in anatomy, perspective, motion, and expressive gesture drawing. Demonstrated ability to create visually compelling character designs, environments, architecture and props with a consistent art style. Experience implementing animation assets into game engines (Unity preferred) and working within technical constraints, including optimisation for performance. Familiarity with shader effects, animation blueprints, and scripting logic to integrate visual assets interactively into gameplay is highly desirable. Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to give and receive constructive feedback and contribute meaningfully to team discussions. A genuine passion for video games and interactive storytelling, with a strong appreciation for indie game development and artistic experimentation. A degree in Animation, Fine Arts, Game Design, or a related discipline is preferred but not mandatory if supported by a strong portfolio Performance Expectations Exhibit technical expertise in all areas of responsibility Demonstrate the ability to solve complex problems creatively while balancing creativity with technical limitations Show leadership in collaborating with the team to meet project deadlines and manage time effectively Tackling complex problem-solving and technical challenges Leading and collaborating within a team to innovate and push the boundaries of game development Benefits Emphasis on maintaining a work-life balance to support employee well-being Opportunities for professional growth and skill development through team collaboration and innovative projects A dynamic and creative work environment where your ideas and contributions can make a real impact Potential for long-term growth within a fast-paced and passionate indie game studio About Us Glass Jar Interactive Private Limited , an indie game development studio based in Bengaluru.
