Job Title: Welding Manager Fabrication (Pressure Vessels, Heat Exchangers, and Overlay Components) Department: Welding / Fabrication Experience: 10 To 18 Years Job Summary: We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Welding Manager to lead and oversee the welding operations for the fabrication of pressure vessels , heat exchangers , and overlay components . This managerial role requires extensive knowledge of welding techniques, material science, fabrication processes, and industry standards. The ideal candidate will manage welding teams, ensure quality control, optimize production processes, and maintain safety standards within the workshop. Key Responsibilities: Welding Operations Management: Oversee and manage all welding activities involved in the fabrication of pressure vessels, heat exchangers, and overlay components. Develop and implement efficient welding processes and procedures to ensure high-quality welds and timely project completion. Monitor welding operations to ensure adherence to safety standards, quality specifications, and industry codes such as ASME , API , and ISO 9001 . Team Leadership and Development: Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of welders and welding technicians, ensuring optimal performance and skill development. Organize training programs and workshops to enhance welding skills, knowledge of welding codes, and safe practices for team members. Conduct performance appraisals, provide constructive feedback, and ensure continuous improvement in welding capabilities. Process Improvement and Efficiency: Review and analyse current welding processes to identify opportunities for improvements, cost reduction, and efficiency gains. Implement Lean Manufacturing principles and best practices to streamline welding processes and minimize downtime. Collaborate with engineering, production, and quality assurance teams to improve overall production workflows and welding methods. Quality Control and Compliance: Ensure that all welded components meet the required NDT (Non-Destructive Testing) and weld inspection criteria (visual, ultrasonic, radiographic, etc.). Review welding procedures, welder qualifications, and welding documentation to ensure compliance with relevant standards and specifications. Investigate and resolve any quality issues related to welding defects, rework, or failure to meet customer specifications. Material and Equipment Management: Work closely with the procurement and production teams to ensure that welding materials (e.g., filler metals, electrodes) are available and meet quality standards. Manage and maintain welding equipment, ensuring they are regularly serviced, calibrated, and in optimal working condition. Ensure proper storage, handling, and use of welding consumables and protective equipment. Health and Safety: Enforce strict adherence to safety protocols and OSHA regulations in the welding shop. Identify and mitigate welding hazards, ensuring the well-being of the team and the facility. Conduct regular safety meetings, inspections, and audits to maintain a safe and compliant work environment. Project Coordination and Scheduling: Collaborate with project managers and other departments to ensure welding schedules align with overall project timelines and goals. Monitor project progress, identifying potential delays in welding processes and implementing corrective actions to maintain deadlines. Coordinate with other departments to ensure proper sequencing of fabrication processes (welding, machining, assembly) and optimal resource utilization. Customer Interaction and Reporting: Engage with customers to understand project requirements, provide technical support, and resolve any welding-related issues during the fabrication process. Prepare and deliver welding performance reports, outlining progress, quality assurance, and challenges. Provide technical input and recommendations for welding processes during customer meetings, ensuring high customer satisfaction. Required Qualifications: Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy, or a related field. Equivalent industry experience may also be considered. Minimum 12 years of experience in welding, with at least 10 years in a managerial or supervisory role within the fabrication industry (experience with pressure vessels and heat exchangers is a plus). Strong expertise in welding processes (MIG, TIG, Stick, Submerged Arc, etc.), welding codes, and material science for pressure vessels and heat exchangers. In-depth knowledge of ASME , API , and other welding-related standards (e.g., AWS D1.1 , ISO 3834 , ISO 9001 ). Familiarity with overlay welding techniques and the use of cladding materials. Excellent leadership, communication, and team management skills. Proficiency in welding-related software and equipment, as well as a strong understanding of fabrication drawings and blueprints. Desired Skills: Project Management skills with experience coordinating fabrication timelines, budgets, and resource allocation. Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) knowledge or certifications, including Visual Inspection (VT) , Ultrasonic Testing (UT) , X-ray (RT) , etc. Experience implementing Lean Manufacturing , Six Sigma , or other process optimization methodologies. Knowledge of welding automation or robotic welding systems is a plus. Personal Attributes: Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities, particularly under pressure. Excellent organizational and multitasking skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple welding projects. A proactive, results-driven individual with a focus on quality, safety, and continuous improvement. Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment. Work Environment: The role will require regular on-site presence in a fabrication workshop. The position may involve working with heavy industrial equipment, welding machines, and other hazardous materials, requiring strict adherence to safety procedures.
