Job Title: International Welding Engineer (IWE) Industry: Heavy Fabrication & Welding Location: Pune Reports To: Plant Head / CEO Job Type: Full-Time Certifications Required: IWE Position Summary: The International Welding Engineer (IWE) plays a critical role in planning, overseeing, and ensuring the integrity of welding processes in heavy fabrication projects. This includes structural steel, pressure vessels, large machinery, and other complex welded assemblies. The IWE ensures compliance with international standards, drives welding quality, and supports process optimization across engineering, manufacturing, and quality assurance departments. Key Responsibilities: 1. Welding Process & Procedure Development • • • Develop and qualify Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and Procedure Qualification Records (PQR) in accordance with ASME, AWS, EN ISO, and other applicable standards. Evaluate and select appropriate welding techniques (SMAW, SAW, GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, etc.) for various materials (e.g., carbon steel, stainless steel, high-strength alloys). Implement advanced welding technologies and automation to improve efficiency and quality. 2. Project & Technical Support • • • Provide technical support for the design and fabrication of welded structures. Liaise with design engineers to ensure weldability and structural integrity in design stages. Interpret and review welding symbols, engineering drawings, and technical specifications. 3. Quality Assurance & Compliance • • Oversee welding inspections, NDT activities, and welder qualification tests. Ensure compliance with industry codes, standards (e.g., ISO 3834, EN 15085 CL1, ASME Sec IX), and client requirements. • Support audits and act as the technical authority for welding-related issues during internal and external reviews. 4. Training & Supervision Train and mentor welders, welding supervisors, and junior engineers. •


• • Supervise welding personnel and ensure proper execution of procedures. Maintain records of welder qualifications and conduct periodic assessments. 5. Continuous Improvement • • • Analyze welding defects, implement corrective actions, and drive root cause analysis. Participate in failure analysis, repair strategy development, and technical reporting. Promote best practices and standardization of welding operations across projects. Required Qualifications: • • • IWE Certification (from an IIW/EWF recognized body). Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Welding Engineering, or related field. Minimum 5 years of experience in welding engineering within heavy fabrication or similar sectors (e.g., Railways, Defense, oil & gas, structural steel, heavy machinery). Proficient in welding codes: ASME, AWS, ISO, API. • • Experience with CAD tools, welding simulation software, and NDT techniques. Key Skills: • • • • Strong knowledge of welding metallurgy and materials behavior. Practical understanding of welding automation and robotics (advantageous). Excellent communication and documentation skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and interface across departments. Preferred Experience (Optional): • • Hands-on experience in field fabrication or site erection projects. Exposure to ISO 3834/EN 15085 certification processes.
