Job Summary:

As a Manager - Control Tower (First Mile & Mid Mile), you will be responsible for overseeing the

logistics operations from the point of origin to distribution hubs, ensuring that goods are efficiently

moved through the first mile and mid-mile stages of the supply chain. Your primary focus will be

optimizing operations, managing real-time visibility of shipments, coordinating with multiple

stakeholders, and driving continuous improvements to ensure on-time, cost-effective deliveries. The role requires a deep understanding of supply chain processes, data analytics, and exceptional problem-solving skills to handle dynamic operational challenges.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Operations Management:

  • Oversee and manage the First Mile (from supplier to warehouse) and Mid Mile (from

warehouse to regional hubs/distribution centers) logistics operations.

  • Ensure timely movement of goods, while optimizing costs and reducing operational

inefficiencies.

  • Monitor transportation service levels and ensure that shipments meet agreed-upon delivery

timelines.

  • Implement and ensure adherence to KPIs and performance metrics to evaluate operational

effectiveness.

2. Control Tower Operations:

  • Act as the central point of contact for all control tower activities related to first mile and mid-

mile transportation.

  • Provide real-time tracking and status updates for all shipments, addressing any issues

proactively.

  • Coordinate between internal teams (e.g., procurement, planning, warehouse) and external

partners (3PLs, carriers) to ensure seamless logistics flow.

  • Utilize TMS (Transportation Management Systems) and WMS (Warehouse Management

Systems) to track and manage shipments effectively.

3. Stakeholder Management & Coordination:

  • Engage and collaborate with vendors, third-party logistics providers, and transportation

carriers to ensure a smooth flow of goods.

  • Maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders (Supply Chain, Procurement,

Customer Service) to resolve issues related to transportation delays, disruptions, or

bottlenecks.

  • Work closely with the Operations team to optimize routes, minimize delays, and reduce

transit times.

4. Data Analysis & Reporting:

  • Analyze supply chain data to identify trends, performance gaps, and opportunities for

optimization.

  • Provide regular reports on operational performance, including on-time delivery rates, transit

times, costs, and efficiency.

  • Leverage data and analytics to proactively identify potential risks and implement corrective

actions.

5. Cost Management & Budgeting:

  • Monitor transportation budgets and ensure operations stay within cost constraints.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities in routing, transportation modes, and vendor

management.

  • Work closely with the finance team to prepare forecasts and manage expenses.

6. Risk Management & Issue Resolution:

  • Anticipate potential disruptions in the first mile and mid-mile transportation network and

implement risk mitigation strategies.

  • Quickly resolve any operational issues, including delays, damages, or loss of goods, by

working with the relevant stakeholders.

7. Continuous Improvement:

  • Lead initiatives to improve transportation processes, enhance operational efficiency, and

reduce operational costs.

  • Evaluate emerging technologies and systems for potential implementation in the control

tower processes.

  • Drive standardization of operational procedures across different transportation modes and

geographies.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelors degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a

related field.

  • Masters degree in Supply Chain or Business Administration is a plus.

Experience:

  • Minimum of

    5-7 years

    of experience in supply chain, logistics, or operations, with at least

    2-3 years

    in a control tower or first/mid-mile management role.
  • Proven track record of managing complex logistics operations and collaborating with multiple internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience working with

    Transportation Management Systems (TMS)

    and

    Warehouse Management Systems (WMS)

    .

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong analytical skills

    with the ability to process and interpret large datasets.
  • Excellent communication

    and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and negotiate with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proficiency in MS Office tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Word). Knowledge of data analytics tools and software is a plus.
  • Ability to

    problem-solve

    and make decisions quickly in a dynamic environment.
  • Knowledge of

    transportation regulations

    , industry standards, and best practices.
