Job Description

Role Overview: As a Senior Flood Risk Engineer at WSP, you will oversee projects involving hydraulic modelling and flood risk-based studies using industry-standard software. You will provide detailed technical analysis and support to junior colleagues, demonstrating a deep understanding of the UK Water business, including policies, legislation, frameworks, and key clients. Key Responsibilities: - Demonstrate project management skills and effective people management experience, overseeing resourcing, project financials, proposals, bids, and providing technical and interpersonal support and mentorship. - Lead project delivery and support junior staff in developing their technical knowledge and delivering tasks/projects independently. - Ensure adherence to technical design procedures, standards, policies, contracts, and specifications, focusing on reviewing/QA procedures related to hydraulic modelling, hydrology, and flood risk management projects. - Cultivate a culture of safety, health, and well-being, leading collaborative efforts with multi-disciplinary teams on projects. - Provide guidance to junior colleagues on flood risk assessments, hydraulic modelling, hydrology, option appraisal studies, and GIS-based desk studies. - Utilize analytical skills in hydraulics, hydrology, and hydraulic design, along with expertise in GIS tools such as QGIS, ArcGIS, and/or Mapinfo. - Sign off detailed project reports and technical notes, guide junior staff on technical writing, and apply project management procedures and proposal development. - Continuously upskill on industry standards, specifications, and tools in the UK water sector, sharing knowledge with junior colleagues. Qualifications Required: - Masters Degree in Water Resources Engineering or equivalent. - 13+ years of experience in flood risk management, hydraulic modelling, hydrology, with exposure to UK policy, standards, specifications, and relevant software tools. - Prior experience in leading a team of modellers and hydrologists. - Strong expertise in various domains within the flood risk management sector and UK Water Industry. - Proficiency in team building, hydraulic modelling, hydrological modelling, flood risk assessment, technical reviews, QA, option appraisal studies, flood alleviation schemes, surface water management, hydraulic design, GIS-based desk studies, and project management. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills, familiarity with UK modelling software, and ability to collaborate with other design disciplines on multi-disciplinary projects.
