Support - SS Electrical Engineering

Purpose/Objective

The Substation Engineering Manager-Tx is responsible for delivering accurate and compliant substation engineering designs, ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness of substation operations. This role supports the execution of substation projects, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to meet project objectives and providing technical support to optimize substation performance.

Key Responsibilities of Role

Substation Engineering Manager-Tx Pre-bid and Estimation Support: Support the estimation team in developing precise cost estimates during pre-bid stages by analysing design requirements, material specifications, and labour costs, ensuring competitive and optimized resource allocation for substation projects. Assist in the preparation of detailed Bill of Quantities (BOQs) and engineering calculations to support cost estimation processes. Design and Optimization: Prepare, review, and ensure all substation engineering documents (including single-line diagrams, layout plans, equipment specifications, and connection diagrams) meet industry standards (IS, IEEE, CBIP, CEA, IEC) and project specifications, achieving compliance and technical accuracy. Optimize substation designs by incorporating innovative engineering solutions, and efficient grounding systems, to enhance system performance and quality while adhering to regulatory requirements. Engineering and Execution: Integrate new technologies into substation designs, such as digital substations and smart grid technologies, enhancing system reliability and operational performance without compromising compliance with technical specifications. Coordinate with design, procurement, and execution teams to ensure timely approval of drawings, layouts, and engineering plans, minimizing delays and facilitating on-time project delivery. Conduct root cause analyses of system failures to identify issues and implement technical solutions, utilizing tools like fault tree analysis (FTA) and failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) to minimize downtime and ensure smooth O&M operations. Research and implement innovative engineering practices, such as condition-based maintenance strategies and asset management systems, that enhance substation asset utilization and reduce operational costs, driving continuous performance improvements. Prepare and review Request for Proposal (RFP) documents, ensuring that technical specifications align with project goals and competitive pricing strategies, while also addressing any client-specific requirements or concerns. Risk Management: Identify segment-specific risks related to project scope, design, and resources, to ensure timely resolution of high-priority risks that could impact project timelines, costs, or safety. Support the team in implementing mitigation strategies, ensuring robust risk management practices are in place. Qualifications and Experience

Educational Qualification: B.E. / B.Tech. in Electrical or Civil Engineering. Master’s (M.E. / M. Tech.) degree is preferred. Work Experience (Range of years): 8-10 years of experience in substation engineering Experience in developing cost-effective, reliability-focused engineering solutions for both Outdoor (Air) and Gas (Indoor) substations. Strong knowledge of electrical distribution and substation design, and familiarity with standards such as IS, IEEE, CBIP, CEA, and IEC.
