Job Purpose

The MCOE-Technology has been established as a world-class R&D facility with the primary objective of leading technology design initiatives to support all businesses of Hindalco, addressing both current and future needs.

The main purpose of this job is to initiate, perform and execute laboratory development and process simulation projects related to Bayer process for new process development and to identify and implement process improvement / debottleneck projects at Renukoot & Muri refineries of Hindalco through collaboration with technical and operations team. Also work on developing processes & technology projects for sustainable waste management for utilization of bauxite residue from these refineries.

This will include

1. Understand the process / technology requirements for Renukoot & Muri Refineries under Hindalco and deliver project objectives at site in order to fulfill the requirements of the plants.
2. Completing end to end analysis for the development projects using knowledge of analytical instruments and methods.
3. Develop and execute SysCAD simulations for assisting in process design & control for Renukoot & Muri refineries of Hindalco.
4. Executing technology projects for utilization of bauxite residue at these refineries by collaborating with plant / corporate sustainability and technical/ operations team
5. Work closely with technical and operations teams at Renukoot & Muri alumina refineries to deliver projects as per technology roadmap.
6. Collaborate with the laboratories at these refineries to carry out lab audits , benchmarking and round robin exercises along with standardization of methods.
7. Work closely with the TMs in developing and implementing analytical methods for relevant areas of Bayer process and sharing with the technical / laboratory teams at these refineries.
8. Executing long term exploratory projects through study of all available relevant literatures on this subject
9. Managing analysis and maintaining / following scheduled calibration of analytical instruments at HICA for Bayer process development to ensure accuracy of analysis of process development samples.

Process / Technology Development

• Identify process development needs of the Alumina Refineries (Renukoot & Muri).
• Undertake laboratory development projects with respect to Bayer process to improve productivity / reduce cost / improve efficiency
• Capability review/ Design of experiments / Quality planning / Activity planning / Review etc
• Timely up-dation of the project
• Drive along with the plant, towards the implementation of the outcome
• Support in Stabilization and streamlining

Process Engineering

• Identify and fulfil plant engineering needs with respect to improvement opportunities in grinding, desilication and digestion, bauxite residue separation, precipitation and impurity control for alumina refineries, both for metallurgical as well as in Chemical grade alumina operations
• Conduct experimental work/ design work along with chemical engineering calculations and design, as needed along with analysis.
• Technical documentation of all the work
• Assist plant in suitable implementation

Knowledge Management

• Identification of projects in relevant areas and execute as per the business needs
• Guide TMs in the development projects and handling of instruments
• Conduct reviews as per plan / suggest corrective / preventive actions

Exploratory Research

• Initiate long term research in identified areas
• Literature scan,

Technical Service

• Assist plant personnel in trouble- shooting
• Interaction with plant personnel to identify trouble areas and improvement opportunities.
• Provide technical help in troubleshooting

Technical Competencies

Essential technical competencies

• Expertise & knowledge of Bayer process chemistry and alumina refinery process control.
• Knowledge and experience on bauxite mineralogy, processability characteristics and application in alumina refineries.
• Knowledge of chemistry and technological aspects for grinding, digestion, bauxite residue separation & handling, filtration , precipitation and evaporation
• Knowledge on data analytics & digitalization.
• Steady state and dynamic modelling using SysCAD and other simulation software.
