Job Summary

SQL Database Administrator

Always On Availability Groups, high availability (HA), disaster recovery (DR), AWS-managed SQL instances, and database performance optimization

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and execute database solutions from design to deployment, ensuring high availability, scalability, and security.
• Understand requirements from refinement meetings, create design documents, and maintain product backlog items.
• Deploy and manage Always On multi-node cluster setups for enterprise SQL Server environments.
• Implement HA and DR strategies, ensuring minimal downtime and data loss during failovers.
• Manage and optimize AWS-managed SQL instances, including migration from on-premise environments to cloud infrastructure.
• Establish, maintain, and improve database development standards, best practices, and coding guidelines.
• Monitor database health and performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement tuning solutions.
• Perform scheduled database maintenance, patching, and release deployments after business hours when required.
• Provide technical leadership to a small team to meet sprint commitments and project deadlines.
• Ensure data security, backup, and recovery procedures are robust and compliant with organizational policies.
  

Required Skills

• Proven experience in deploying Always On multi-node clusters for SQL Server.
• Strong knowledge of HA and DR options and implementation for enterprise databases.
• Experience in AWS RDS/Aurora SQL administration and cloud database migration projects.
• Proficiency in T-SQL scripting, database performance tuning, query optimization, and indexing strategies.
• Ability to design, implement, and enforce DB development standards and best practices.
• Strong problem-solving, debugging, and troubleshooting skills for database-related issues.
• Hands-on experience with monitoring tools and automated alert systems for SQL environments.
  

Desired Skills

• Exposure to DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and database deployment automation.
• Knowledge of PowerShell or Python scripting for database administration tasks.
• Familiarity with containerized database environments (Docker/Kubernetes).
• Experience with data replication and cross-region failover strategies.
