Women's Sports Science Assistant Women’s Sports Science Assistant Location: Sparrows Lane Training Ground, South East London Salary: To be discussed Hours: 20 hours per week between Monday to Sunday and Matchdays About Us Charlton Athletic Football Club is an English professional association football club based in Charlton, south-east London. The club was founded on June 9th, 1905 and has a very storied history from rising to the top-flight of English Football in the 1930s (First Division) and again in the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s, to winning the FA Cup in 1947 and to leaving their Valley home in the mid-1980s only to make an impassioned return in 1992. Historically, the women's team played under Charlton Athletic from 2000 to 2007 but were released to become an independently run team in 2007 following the men's team's relegation from the Premier League. The women's team were originally formed as a non-professional team in 1991 and were highly successful in the early 2000s winning The FA Cup, the League Cup, and the Charity Shield, as well as coming runners-up in the top division in multiple seasons. In February 2021, the club acquired the Charlton Athletic Women's team, turning the team full-time professional, and integrating them to become one club again. Role Description The purpose of the role is to contribute to the aims and objectives of the Performance Services department through the provision of Sports Science and physical development to the Women & Girl’s Programme. To contribute towards an innovative sport science team striving to achieve optimal results in the areas of performance, sport science and rehabilitation, while providing excellent support for players. Key Responsibilities To assist the Lead Strength & Conditioning Coach with the development and delivery of a Sports Science and Strength and Conditioning support program to the Charlton Athletic Women’s FC. To provide sport science support provision to Charlton Athletic Women’s FC – inclusive of physical/physiological testing, GPS training analysis and daily monitoring data. To support the delivery of gym and pitch based strength and conditioning for the Women’s First Team programme. To support the technical coaches with the design and delivery of pitch based football programming incorporating physical, tactical, technical and mental components. To collaborate with the Medical staff in designing and delivering rehabilitation programming to injured players. To support the implementation of pre- and post-match nutritional strategies for the Women’s First Team programme. Implement and manage recovery strategies where necessary. To implement guidelines for athletic development in line with best practice for the FA WSL. Utilise Kitman Labs, SharePoint, and Teamworks systems to store, monitor and visualise relevant data. Communicate with international federations to ensure the safe transition of players from club to international duty. Collaboration with wider Performance Services staff across the Men’s First Team, Boy’s Academy and Girl’s Academy, contributing towards club-wide CPD. Undertake any other reasonable duties for the Football or Performance Services Department as may be requested. Attend FA workshops, calls or meetings where required. Education/Qualifications/Training Undergraduate degree in Sports Science / Strength and Conditioning, or related field, from a recognised University. Postgraduate degree specialising in Sport Science, or related field, from a recognised University. Working towards, or have achieved BASES accreditation. Attended UKSCA workshops, and working towards full accreditation. FA Emergency First Aid qualification. Specific Experience Experience in providing sport science support to female athletes and coaches to improve performance. Experience of using team monitoring systems (e.g. GPS & heart rate). Ability to implement innovative ideas, problem solve, make decisions and be comfortable working under pressure within strict time-frames. Experience of working in gym based setting delivering physical performance and rehabilitation programmes. An understanding of I.T. and ability to use computer-based programmes to fulfil the role of the job. Commitment to continued professional development, both personally and departmentally. Abilities/Skills/Knowledge Knowledge and understanding of child protection and safeguarding issues. Track record of successfully integrating into a multi-disciplinary team. Excellent planning and communication skills. Be a good role model for staff and players within a high performance sport environment. Maintain high professional standards at all time. Ability to work in a fast-moving environment. Possess communication skills that are clear, engaging and responsive. Demonstrates good work ethic and high output. Additional Information This a part time role that includes work on weekends and evenings.
