Job Summary

The Special Purpose Machine (SPM) Design Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and implementation of customized mechanical machines used for specific industrial applications. The role involves conceptual design, detailed mechanical design, coordination with electrical and automation teams, and supporting manufacturing, assembly, and commissioning activities.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop special purpose machines based on customer requirements and process needs
• Prepare concept layouts, 3D models, and 2D drawings using CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, )
• Perform machine calculations (load, torque, speed, stress, material selection)
• Select mechanical components such as motors, gearboxes, bearings, cylinders, sensors, and fasteners.
• Coordinate with electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and PLC teams
• Support manufacturing, assembly, and testing of machines
• Troubleshoot mechanical issues during installation and commissioning
• Ensure designs comply with safety standards and quality requirements
• Prepare BOM, technical documentation, and manuals
• Assist in continuous improvement and cost optimization of machine designs

Required Skills

• Strong knowledge of machine design and mechanical systems
• Understanding of manufacturing processes (machining, welding, sheet metal, assembly)
• Basic knowledge of pneumatics and hydraulics
• Ability to read and create engineering drawings
• Problem-solving and analytical skills
• Good communication and teamwork abilities

Educational Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering

Experience

• 2–3 years for experienced SPM design engineers

Software Knowledge (Preferred)

• AutoCAD
• SolidWorks
• MS Excel, MS Office
