Shift Manager Maintenance - Mechanical

Purpose/Objective

Area in Charge - Mechanical (RTG) is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, repair, and efficient functioning of the Rubber Tyred Gantry (RTG) cranes and associated mechanical systems within the port. This includes ensuring the reliability of the equipment, minimizing downtime, and ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards.

Key Responsibilities of Role

RTG Crane Maintenance: Supervise and manage the scheduled maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair activities of RTG cranes & ensure mechanical systems, such as engines, hydraulic systems, electrical components, and brakes, are in optimal working condition. Preventive & Predictive Maintenance: Develop and implement a comprehensive preventive maintenance program to reduce unscheduled downtime, conduct regular inspections of RTG cranes and associated equipment to identify potential issues & utilize predictive maintenance techniques and tools to forecast component failure and take proactive actions. Repairs and Overhaul: Supervise and perform critical mechanical repairs to RTG cranes during breakdowns, ensuring minimal operational disruption & plan and execute major overhauls of mechanical systems, including engine replacements, gear repairs, and hydraulic system restoration. Safety and Compliance: Ensure all mechanical maintenance activities are conducted in compliance with port safety protocols, industry standards, and environmental regulations. Maintain adherence to safety guidelines during repairs, servicing, and inspection processes & enforce safe working practices for the maintenance team while ensuring proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Inventory & Spare Parts Management: Monitor and manage the inventory of mechanical spare parts and tools for RTG crane maintenance, ensure timely procurement of essential parts to prevent delays in maintenance and repairs & maintain accurate records of parts usage, reorder cycles, and vendor management for the procurement of materials. Documentation & Reporting: Maintain comprehensive records of maintenance activities, repairs, inspections, and downtime incidents, prepare regular reports on RTG crane performance, maintenance costs, and any mechanical issues & Provide feedback and recommendations for improvements in maintenance practices and equipment performance. Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements in maintenance procedures, aiming to enhance efficiency and reduce operational costs, research and recommend technological innovations and upgrades for mechanical systems to enhance performance and reliability. Collaboration with Other Departments: Coordinate with other departments (such as electrical, operations, and logistics) to ensure smooth workflows and address mechanical issues affecting overall port operations & Collaborate with vendors and external contractors for specialized mechanical services and parts procurement. Qualifications and Experience

Educational Qualification: Diploma/Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field. Work Experience: Minimum 5-8 years of experience in mechanical maintenance, specifically with RTG cranes or similar heavy port machinery. Extensive experience in diagnosing and repairing mechanical systems, hydraulics, and engines.
