To plan and achieve the Extrusion production targets and process efficiencies by ensuring manpower productivity and cost effectiveness. To extrude innovative products for varied customer requirement to improve profitability.

Job Context & Major Challenges

Alupuram Works produces and sells over 13800 tons per annum of Aluminium Extrusions and caters to a wide spectrum of end uses covering applications in Architectural (18%), Industrial (26%), Electrical (14 %), Transport (12 %), Consumer Durables (4 %), Defence (9 %) and other miscellaneous (17%) segments. Today Alupuram has over 700 customers and produces over 7000 different profiles (in the extrusion presses) in over 30 alloys (which are cast at Alupuram Cast House). Extrusion Manufacturers are fiercely competing in their own niche markets, often denying entry into some segments. Extrusion presses is the key equipment of obtaining the desired output and it is necessary for maintaining:
Effective utilization of resources Work practice implementation and resource utilisation Achieving production targets Improving manpower productivity Improving efficiencies in terms of thru put, recovery and utilisation Keeping cost within budgeted figures Implement operating practices for new products in the press area. Major Challenges Involves Understanding the customer requirements and applications of over 700 customers spread across various segments and translating the same to the shop floor practices Innovative planning of resources to maintain the increased level of production in the scenario of resource crisis involving Power and billet. Key Result Areas KRA (Accountabilities) (Max 1325 Characters) Supporting Actions (Max 1325 Characters) KRA1 Production activities i) Plan and monitor operations of the presses so as to meet quantitative targets of production and productivity. ii) Monitor ensure smooth running of presses by ensuring availability of necessary resources on the shop floor iii) Maintain the efficiencies of Press operation in terms of Recovery (73. 6% overall), kg/hr (1800kg/hr), utilization (79% in P11 and 75% in P29) KRA2 WCM activity i) Support the WCM initiatives in Press Area ii) Plan and implement actions related to sub committees KRA3 Safety i) Monitor and eliminate the unsafe acts and conditions for zero accidents and incidents in the department and implement corrective actions. ii) Sustain a Safety culture in the Press Area KRA4 ISO and OHSAS system upkeep i) Maintain the systems of ISO 9001, ISO 14000, OHSAS-18000 for Press Area. ii) Close and take corrective action for all the NCRs during external or internal audits. KRA5 Development activities in Press Area i) Develop and implement operating practices for new products in the Press Area ii) Identify the training needs of employees working in the section, and with the help of HRM organize and implement training programs. iii) Monitor and review and update the skills of employees working in the section. iv) Initiate annual merit ratings for operatives and supervisor working in the section KRA6 Maintaining Product quality i) Give relevant inputs to develop practices and SOPs to maintain product quality. ii) Maintain product quality as per customer s requirements for activity in Press area iii) Initiate and Implement corrective actions identified through CPAR s and MCR s. KRA7 Resource Utilization i) Planning the resources required for press to meet efficiency targets ii) Innovatively deploying the manpower to meet the production targets in Press iii) Developing and maintaining a flexible work culture in Press KRA8 Process Adherence i) Conveying the customer requirements in simple terms to shop floor ii) Develop and deliver training program for shop floor iii) Modify the processes where necessary iv) Aid conduct trials to stabilize the process
