Senior Tooling Engineer

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Study specifications in detail and prepare 2D/3D sketches of tools, fixtures, and gauges.
• Plan and execute manufacturing processes in consultation with machine operators.
• Prepare and obtain approvals for drawings, inspection reports, and design validation sheets.
• Update activity trackers, request trackers, NDA trackers, and supplier file trackers.
• Investigate and identify cost reduction opportunities through cost analysis reviews.
• Establish cost estimates for production processes and tooling costs, reviewing alternatives and making recommendations for improvement.
• Assess cost-effectiveness of tools, gauges, and fixtures, tracking actual costs relative to budget and reporting status regularly.
• Prepare tooling budgets, continuous improvement plans, and mistake-proofing stories.
• Adopt a flexible approach to workload and assume new responsibilities as appropriate.
• Maintain quality systems in the applicable area, including closure of non-conformance within agreed dates.
• Maintain all QMS & IMS documents of the department (ISO 9001, 45001, 14001 & AS9100).
• Identify critical tooling, gauges, and fixtures and list risk mitigation plans to ensure minimal downtime.
• Send inquiries and ensure supplier quotations meet cost estimates, negotiating prices with suppliers.
• Prepare purchase indents and follow up until PO release.
• Identify resource constraints and escalate any technical or administrative roadblocks to the team lead or head of department.
• Participate in department sunrise meetings and communicate regularly with all team members to ensure good two-way communication regarding tooling issues.
• Create material code requests and maintain the document management system (DMS).
• Clear tooling GRN and tooling bill statement sheets.
• Ensure safety in the tool room and promote safe work practices.
• Identify continuous improvement projects in the department and facilitate timely completion.
• Follow up with suppliers to ensure on-time completion of material inwarding and incoming inspection for tools and fixtures.
• Upload supplier documents, such as NDA, SRF, OS certificates in the portal and DMS.
• Review and ensure all tooling activities are completed before releasing the bill of tools.
• Work towards achieving company goals and adhere to company/HR policies and ethics.
• Proactively contribute to the team and actively commit to team development.
• Take ownership of projects, planning milestones, timelines, budgets, resources, and identifying potential risks to deliver engineering aspects within agreed completion dates.
• Be proactive regarding task completion and periodically advise the wider team on project status, timing, resources, issues, and ability to deliver on time with excellence.

Skills Required:

Top of Form

• Experience in tooling design - tools, gauges, fixtures
• Skilled in 3D modeling tools like CATIA, SolidWorks, or similar
• Knowledge of QMS standards (ISO 9001, AS9100, etc.)
• Good understanding of manufacturing processes
• Able to manage technical documentation and records
• Experience with cost estimation and finding cost-saving ideas
• Strong in supplier coordination and follow-ups
• Good communication and team collaboration skills
• Ability to handle projects independently and meet deadlines
