Manager (press tools,stamping) Location: Dharwad Department: Technical NPD Reporting To: Technical Manager Role Overview The Tooling Design Engineer will be responsible for the complete design and development of tooling solutions, including 3D modeling, 2D drafting, assembly design, detailed drawings, and machine trials. The role demands strong expertise in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), latest CAD software (UG NX / Siemens NX, SolidWorks), and hands-on involvement in manufacturing and trial activities to ensure robust, production-ready tooling solutions. Key Responsibilities 1.Tooling Design & Development o Design and develop tooling, fixtures, gauges, and related equipment. o Prepare 3D models, assemblies, and detailed 2D drawings using Unigraphics NX (Version 2306 or latest) and SolidWorks (2024 or latest). o Ensure designs meet functional, manufacturability, and quality requirements. 2.Drawing & Drafting o Apply GD&T for all component and assembly drawings. o Generate BOMs, dimensional reports, and detailed documentation. 3.Process Follow-up o Coordinate with internal teams and vendors for tooling manufacturing. o Conduct design reviews, feasibility checks, and ensure design-to-manufacture alignment. o Follow up with machine shops, vendors, and suppliers for timely completion. 4.Machine Trials & Validation o Participate in trial runs on machines to validate tooling performance. o Identify and resolve tooling issues during trial and production. o Implement design modifications and improvements as required. 5.Documentation & Compliance o Maintain design records, technical documentation, and revision control. o Adhere to APQP, PPAP, and IATF 16949 standards for tooling development. o Prepare DFMEA and other relevant documents for tooling projects. 6.Continuous Improvement o Explore new design methodologies, materials, and technologies to improve tooling life and performance. o Support cost reduction and productivity improvement initiatives. 7.Tool Material Selection & Application o Select appropriate tool steels and materials based on application, wear, and forming requirements. o Expertise in materials such as: D2, P10, H13, Carbide, and other high-performance tool steels. o Materials for cold sheet metal forming, stamping, and progressive dies o Optimize tooling life, performance, and cost through proper material selection and heat treatment.
