Senior Scrum Master

Duties & Responsibilities

Teaching

• Deliver workshops on Agile principles, Scrum roles, SAFe ceremonies, and Lean-Agile mindset.
• Educate teams on Agile frameworks including Scrum, Kanban, SAFe, and hybrid models.
• Promote continuous learning through ICAgile-aligned training paths and certification guidance.

Coaching

• Guide teams through Agile adoption and maturity using observation, feedback, and coaching conversations.
• Coach Product Owners, Scrum Masters, and team members on backlog management, team dynamics, and scaled delivery.
• Support leadership in scaling Agile practices across portfolios and Agile Release Trains (ARTs).

Mentoring

• Mentor Scrum Masters and Agile champions in developing facilitation and coaching capabilities.
• Share real-world experiences and best practices from Agile transformations and scaled environments.
• Provide career guidance and role clarity to team members navigating Agile roles.

Facilitating

• Facilitate Agile ceremonies, retrospectives, and cross-functional collaboration sessions.
• Lead PI Planning, iteration reviews, and team syncs in SAFe environments.
• Design and facilitate workshops for conflict resolution, team alignment, and stakeholder engagement.

Agile Metrics & Tooling Expertise

• Define and implement Agile metrics such as velocity, cycle time, predictability, and flow efficiency.
• Use Jira, Azure DevOps, Rally, or similar tools to visualize team and program performance.
• Coach teams and leaders on interpreting metrics to drive continuous improvement and delivery health.
• Build dashboards for leadership visibility into Agile maturity, throughput, and ART-level progress.
• Ensure metrics are used constructively to support team growthnot for performance policing.
• Data Modeling & Transformation: Ability to clean, shape, and model data using Power Query and DAX to create meaningful relationships and calculations across Agile datasets.
• Dashboard & Report Design: Skilled in building interactive dashboards and visual reports that communicate Agile metrics such as velocity, cycle time, and throughput to both teams and leadership.
• Integration & Automation: Experience connecting Power BI to tools like Jira, Azure DevOps, and EasyBI to automate data refreshes and ensure real-time visibility into team performance.

Experience

• Performs work under minimal supervision.
• Handles complex issues and problems, and refers only the most complex issues to higher-level staff.
• Possesses comprehensive knowledge of subject matter.
• Provides leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring to junior associates.
• May act as a lead.
• Typically requires a bachelor's degree and 7 or more years of experience; may require Scrum Master Certification (CSM).
• Reports to: Typically reports to a manager.

Management Responsibilities

• Mentor junior Scrum Masters and team members in agile methodologies.
• Lead by example and embody the agile principles and values.
• May lead cross-functional project teams, providing guidance and support.

Basic Qualifications

• Certified Scrum Master (CSM) or equivalent.
• Proven experience with agile practices, patterns, and techniques.
• Experience in mentoring and coaching agile teams.
• Coaching teams in a Scaled Agile Framework environment.
• Jira administration and significant metrics and JQL experience Qualifications for Metrics & Report Writing
• Proficient in generating Agile reports and dashboards using Jira and EasyBI.
• Experience with Power BI for visualizing team and program-level metrics.
• Ability to translate Agile metrics into actionable insights for stakeholders.
• Familiarity with Jira Align is preferred for enterprise-level reporting.
• Capable of coaching teams on interpreting and using metrics constructively.

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced Certified Scrum Master (A-CSM) or Certified Scrum Professional (CSP).
• Certified SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework) Scrum Master (SSM)
• Experience in large-scale agile frameworks such as SAFe, LeSS, or DaD.
• Strong understanding of software development life cycle models as well as expert knowledge of both Agile and traditional project management principles and practices.
• Experience with Jira Align or compatible Enterprise Agile Planning / Portfolio Management tool.
• Able to design appropriate workflows and processes above the team level.
