The successful candidate will manage a large production team, ensure operational targets are met, and work closely with quality assurance, maintenance, and supply chain departments to achieve business goals.

Key Responsibilities:

Production Management:

    • Oversee the end-to-end operations of the Lens Lab, ensuring smooth workflow from raw material input to final product output.
    • Plan, organize, and manage daily production schedules to ensure timely delivery of lenses while meeting production targets and customer demands.
    • Optimize production efficiency by minimizing downtime, managing machine utilization, and ensuring all processes meet set KPIs.
    • Coordinate with procurement and supply chain teams to ensure the availability of raw materials and maintain optimal inventory levels.

Operational Excellence & Continuous Improvement:

    • Implement lean manufacturing principles (e.g., Six Sigma, Kaizen, 5S) to improve operational efficiency, reduce waste, and lower production costs.
    • Lead initiatives focused on process optimization, reducing cycle times, and improving lens quality.
    • Conduct root cause analysis for any production delays or defects and ensure corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) are implemented.
    • Stay updated with new technology, machinery, and manufacturing techniques, and lead the implementation of innovative solutions.

Team Leadership & Development:

    • Lead and mentor a team of production supervisors, technicians, and operators, ensuring high levels of engagement, performance, and compliance with safety standards.
    • Establish clear performance expectations and KPIs for the team, conducting regular performance reviews and providing constructive feedback.
    • Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development, offering training on new equipment, technologies, and best practices.

Quality Assurance & Compliance:

    • Ensure all production processes adhere to Lenskarts quality standards and regulatory requirements.
    • Collaborate closely with the Quality Assurance team to implement and monitor strict quality control measures at every stage of production.
    • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations within the plant, driving a culture of zero-accident safety practices.

Capacity Planning & Forecasting:

    • Work with senior management to develop production capacity plans based on demand forecasts and business goals.
    • Lead efforts to scale up production capabilities in response to increased market demand or new product introductions.
    • Manage and optimize resource allocation, balancing production output with cost efficiency and labor utilization.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

    • Collaborate with R&D and product development teams to ensure smooth transitions of new lens products from design to production.
    • Coordinate with the Maintenance department to ensure regular upkeep and preventive maintenance of machinery, minimizing downtime and production disruptions.
    • Liaise with supply chain and procurement teams to ensure timely delivery of materials and effective logistics management.

Budget & Cost Control:

    • Prepare and manage the production budget, closely monitoring costs and implementing strategies to improve cost-efficiency.
    • Identify opportunities for cost savings across production processes without compromising on quality or delivery timelines.
    • Track and report on key production metrics, providing regular updates to senior management.

Key Skills and Competencies:

  • Technical Expertise:

    • In-depth knowledge of lens manufacturing processes, including surfacing, polishing, coating, and edging.
    • Proficiency in using and maintaining optical machinery such as lens generators, coating equipment, and edging machines.
    • Understanding of optical lens materials (CR-39, polycarbonate, high-index) and advanced lens technologies (anti-reflective coatings, photochromic lenses).
  • Operational & Strategic Skills:

    • Strong background in production planning, scheduling, and lean manufacturing principles (Six Sigma, Kaizen, TPM).
    • Experience in leading large-scale manufacturing operations with a focus on maximizing throughput and quality.
    • Expertise in data-driven decision-making, using KPIs and metrics to drive process improvements and operational efficiency.
  • Leadership & People Management:

    • Proven experience in managing and leading large teams, with a focus on coaching, mentoring, and developing staff.
    • Ability to motivate and drive high performance in a fast-paced production environment.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence cross-functional teams.
  • Problem-Solving & Analytical Thinking:

    • Strong analytical skills with experience in conducting root cause analysis and driving corrective actions.
    • Ability to troubleshoot production issues and make quick, data-driven decisions to resolve them.
    • Focus on continuous improvement, always looking for ways to enhance processes, reduce waste, and improve product quality.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, or a related field.
  • Masters degree or certification in Operations Management, Lean Manufacturing, or Six Sigma (preferred).
  • Certifications in quality systems like ISO 9001 or related optical industry standards would be advantageous.
