Job Summary:
The Senior Production Manager for the Lens Lab will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of lens production, from raw material handling to finished product quality. This role demands a deep understanding of optical lens manufacturing processes, a strong leadership track record, and an ability to drive continuous improvement and operational excellence. The successful candidate will manage a large production team, ensure operational targets are met, and work closely with quality assurance, maintenance, and supply chain departments to achieve business goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Production Management:
- Oversee the end-to-end operations of the Lens Lab, ensuring smooth workflow from raw material input to final product output.
- Plan, organize, and manage daily production schedules to ensure timely delivery of lenses while meeting production targets and customer demands.
- Optimize production efficiency by minimizing downtime, managing machine utilization, and ensuring all processes meet set KPIs.
- Coordinate with procurement and supply chain teams to ensure the availability of raw materials and maintain optimal inventory levels.
Operational Excellence & Continuous Improvement:
- Implement lean manufacturing principles (e.g., Six Sigma, Kaizen, 5S) to improve operational efficiency, reduce waste, and lower production costs.
- Lead initiatives focused on process optimization, reducing cycle times, and improving lens quality.
- Conduct root cause analysis for any production delays or defects and ensure corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) are implemented.
- Stay updated with new technology, machinery, and manufacturing techniques, and lead the implementation of innovative solutions.
Team Leadership & Development:
- Lead and mentor a team of production supervisors, technicians, and operators, ensuring high levels of engagement, performance, and compliance with safety standards.
- Establish clear performance expectations and KPIs for the team, conducting regular performance reviews and providing constructive feedback.
- Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development, offering training on new equipment, technologies, and best practices.
Quality Assurance & Compliance:
- Ensure all production processes adhere to Lenskarts quality standards and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate closely with the Quality Assurance team to implement and monitor strict quality control measures at every stage of production.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations within the plant, driving a culture of zero-accident safety practices.
Capacity Planning & Forecasting:
- Work with senior management to develop production capacity plans based on demand forecasts and business goals.
- Lead efforts to scale up production capabilities in response to increased market demand or new product introductions.
- Manage and optimize resource allocation, balancing production output with cost efficiency and labor utilization.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Collaborate with R&D and product development teams to ensure smooth transitions of new lens products from design to production.
- Coordinate with the Maintenance department to ensure regular upkeep and preventive maintenance of machinery, minimizing downtime and production disruptions.
- Liaise with supply chain and procurement teams to ensure timely delivery of materials and effective logistics management.
Budget & Cost Control:
- Prepare and manage the production budget, closely monitoring costs and implementing strategies to improve cost-efficiency.
- Identify opportunities for cost savings across production processes without compromising on quality or delivery timelines.
- Track and report on key production metrics, providing regular updates to senior management.
Key Skills and Competencies:
Technical Expertise:
- In-depth knowledge of lens manufacturing processes, including surfacing, polishing, coating, and edging.
- Proficiency in using and maintaining optical machinery such as lens generators, coating equipment, and edging machines.
- Understanding of optical lens materials (CR-39, polycarbonate, high-index) and advanced lens technologies (anti-reflective coatings, photochromic lenses).
Operational & Strategic Skills:
- Strong background in production planning, scheduling, and lean manufacturing principles (Six Sigma, Kaizen, TPM).
- Experience in leading large-scale manufacturing operations with a focus on maximizing throughput and quality.
- Expertise in data-driven decision-making, using KPIs and metrics to drive process improvements and operational efficiency.
Leadership & People Management:
- Proven experience in managing and leading large teams, with a focus on coaching, mentoring, and developing staff.
- Ability to motivate and drive high performance in a fast-paced production environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence cross-functional teams.
Problem-Solving & Analytical Thinking:
- Strong analytical skills with experience in conducting root cause analysis and driving corrective actions.
- Ability to troubleshoot production issues and make quick, data-driven decisions to resolve them.
- Focus on continuous improvement, always looking for ways to enhance processes, reduce waste, and improve product quality.
Educational Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, or a related field.
- Masters degree or certification in Operations Management, Lean Manufacturing, or Six Sigma (preferred).
- Certifications in quality systems like ISO 9001 or related optical industry standards would be advantageous.
Work Environment:
- The position is based at the Lenskart Lens Lab in Bhiwadi, a fast-paced and high-volume production environment.
- You will work closely with cross-functional teams in production, maintenance, quality control, R&D, and supply chain.
- Occasional travel may be required to other facilities or supplier locations.
